'Unfair!' Taxi drivers hit out at ‘draconian’ penalty factors proposal

Talking at a current assembly, Gareth Bentley, licensing supervisor at Harrogate Borough Council, stated whereas he recognised the considerations over a discount in drivers, this needed to be balanced towards the security of passengers.

He added that taxi drivers must be handled in a different way to common highway customers as “they’re in an elevated place when it comes to taking care of folks’s security.”

Mr Bentley stated: “There’s a larger accountability and the next want for us to make sure security.”

The proposals have been put ahead as a part of new statutory requirements from the Division for Transport which all councils are anticipated to undertake except there are “compelling causes” to not.
