PRIME NEWS POST

The INDONESIAN – The condition of soil cracks on Bukit Rantau Pauh, Jorong Perhimpunan, Nagari Talu, Talamau District, West Pasaman Regency, has worsened. According to local residents’ observations, the cracks have widened and sunk by more than 3 meters, with a length exceeding 30 meters in the past week.

Should a landslide occur, an estimated 116 houses and hundreds of families are likely to be affected. The provincial road connecting Pasaman and West Pasaman Regencies is also at risk of being blocked. Field monitoring shows that a small landslide has already occurred at the foot of the slope, with potential subsequent landslides that could block river flow and trigger flash floods.

Extreme weather with continuous heavy rain has increased the risk. A few days ago, residents together with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) West Pasaman Regency installed warning sirens and conducted patrols over the past week. Some residents have also evacuated to safer locations at night. The community hopes the government will take immediate mitigation measures to prevent casualties.

When contacted by phone, Mulyadi, Head of KTR West Pasaman, stated, “We are here to inspect the cracks and also to socialize disaster preparedness to the community.” The cooperative has deployed 3 heavy equipment units that successfully cleared the provincial road blocked by landslide debris. The team also conducted a follow-up inspection at Pasanggiang, Nagari Talu, to monitor the river that has shifted approximately 100 meters.
