North Sumatra – Poor telephone signal and internet network access in the Helvetia Village area, Labuhan Deli District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, has drawn sharp complaints from the community. This long-standing condition is seen as a form of the government’s lack of attention to the basic needs of residents in the area.
The Head of the Helvetia Village Farmer Group, Palti Nainggolan, emphasized that the weak telecommunications network has become a serious problem that has yet to receive a concrete solution from the government, both at the regional and central levels.
According to Palti, the community in Labuhan Deli District faces difficulties in communication every day due to very weak phone and internet signals that often disappear altogether. This situation hinders community activities, especially for farmers who need access to information to support their work.
“We have been experiencing signal difficulties in Labuhan Deli for a long time. Even making a phone call often fails to connect, let alone using the internet. Until now, there has been no serious attention from the government,” asserted Palti Nainggolan on Saturday (22/2).
He assessed that the weak telecommunications network not only hampers community communication but also has a direct impact on the economic conditions of residents, the majority of whom work as farmers and cultivators. Without adequate internet access, farmers struggle to obtain information on agricultural commodity prices, farming technology, and marketing opportunities, which are now largely conducted digitally.
Palti also highlighted the serious impact on the education sector. According to him, children in Helvetia Village are the most disadvantaged because limited internet access makes it difficult for them to keep up with technology-based educational developments.
“We don’t want the children in our village to be left behind just because of signal problems. The internet has now become a basic necessity, not a luxury facility anymore,” he said.
He noted that this condition demonstrates the persistent inequality in digital infrastructure development between urban areas and peripheral regions like Labuhan Deli District. In fact, equitable access to telecommunications is a crucial part of national development.
Therefore, Palti Nainggolan urges the central government, through relevant ministries, and the North Sumatra Provincial Government to immediately take concrete and measurable steps to improve the telecommunications network in the Labuhan Deli District area.
“We ask the government not to wait any longer. Residents have lived with signal limitations for too long. If the government is serious about developing the regions, then the telecommunications network problem must be resolved immediately,” he stressed.
According to him, improving the telecommunications network would have a significant impact on regional progress, particularly in improving community welfare, strengthening the agricultural sector, and opening up better educational access for the younger generation.
The people of Helvetia Village hope the government will immediately come to see the situation on the ground and take swift action so that the Labuhan Deli District area does not continue to lag behind in communication and information access in the digital era.
