The INDONESIAN (P.Siantar) – The Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Parsaoran Simalungun Branch has once again demonstrated its commitment to expanding access to justice by holding another session of Legal Counseling at the Class II A Detention Center/Correctional Facility (Rutan/Lapas) in Pematangsiantar.

This initiative serves as tangible evidence of LBH Parsaoran’s ongoing dedication to providing legal education, particularly for detainees, who remain a vulnerable group entitled to constitutional rights and legal representation.

Carrying the theme “Legal Aid for the Underprivileged,” the counseling session was attended enthusiastically by the inmates. The materials covered basic understanding of legal rights, access to free legal aid, and the importance of legal assistance at every stage of the judicial process.

The Director of LBH Parsaoran Simalungun Branch, Marihot F. Sinaga, S.H., emphasized that this activity is not merely a routine agenda, but part of a greater mission to realize inclusive justice.

“This is not the first time we have conducted legal counseling here at Pematangsiantar Prison. We want to ensure that every detainee understands their rights, because justice must not stop just because someone is behind bars,” he stated on Monday (09/04).

He further stressed that legal aid is a fundamental right guaranteed by the state and should not be hindered by economic status or limited access to information.

During the session, participants were also equipped with practical knowledge regarding the procedures for obtaining free legal aid, the role of legal counsel, and the importance of understanding the legal process thoroughly so they can navigate each stage with awareness and responsibility.

As part of the national legal aid program, this activity strengthens the synergy between legal aid institutions and state agencies in effectively realizing the principle of equality before the law.

“Together with LBH Parsaoran Simalungun Branch, we affirm our commitment to continue holding similar activities regularly, both within correctional institutions and within the wider community, as part of the Ministry’s program,” said the Head of Prison.
