AZHAR SIDIQ: NATIONAL STABILITY IS THE KEY TO INDONESIA’S DEVELOPMENT

PRIME NEWS POST

JAKARTA – Chairman of the National Leadership Council of the Indonesian Law Students Association (DPN PERMAHI), Azhar Sidiq S., emphasised that all segments of society share a collective responsibility to safeguard national stability as the fundamental foundation for successful development. While differing political views are natural in a democracy, they must not escalate into movements that disrupt public order or undermine national interests.

Addressing a joint press briefing, Azhar stated that all elements of the nation bear both moral and constitutional obligations to maintain a conducive national environment. Political diversity is an inherent part of democratic life, yet it must not deepen into polarisation, provocation, or actions that threaten public order and the common good.

Azhar noted that the administration of President Prabowo Subianto currently faces major challenges, including strengthening the national economy, enhancing food security, advancing downstream industrialisation, and implementing bureaucratic reform. A stable environment is therefore essential to ensure these strategic programmes run optimally and deliver tangible benefits to the public.

“Every government that holds a constitutional mandate must be given space to govern. Evaluation and criticism remain vital, but they must be presented objectively, based on facts, and must not evolve into narratives that fuel national instability,” Azhar said.

Indonesia’s democracy guarantees freedom of expression, he added, but it also carries the constitutional duty to preserve national unity. Freedom of speech must not be exploited to deepen societal divides or spread unsubstantiated claims that erode public trust in state institutions.

As an organisation of law students, DPN PERMAHI believes successful national development requires synergy between the government and the people. Strategic policies must be monitored critically yet constructively to ensure the ultimate goal of improving public welfare is achieved.

The nation’s energy, Azhar argued, should now be directed toward resolving fundamental issues: creating jobs, raising education standards, eradicating corruption, boosting investment, and ensuring equitable development across all regions of Indonesia.

“This nation needs collaboration, not endless confrontation. If every policy is viewed solely through the lens of political conflict, our national energy will be exhausted in debate rather than in building solutions.”

He also urged the public to distinguish between constructive criticism aimed at improving governance and provocation intended only to stir political unrest. In a state governed by the rule of law, all aspirations have a legitimate channel – but all engagement must remain within constitutional boundaries and respect the broader public interest.

Support for government stability does not mean abandoning oversight, DPN PERMAHI stressed. On the contrary, strong stability fosters healthy evaluation, effective policy-making, and legal certainty – all essential for economic growth and shared prosperity.

In closing, Azhar called on all elements of the nation to prioritise national interests over group or partisan concerns.

“Indonesia needs unity, legal certainty, and political stability so that our development agenda can reach its full potential. Let us hold our government accountable through responsible criticism, objective oversight, and active participation in nation-building. When stability is maintained, development stands the best chance of delivering justice and prosperity for all Indonesians.”
