The Indonesian — Basyaruddin, Chairman of the Indonesian National Mining Cooperative (IKTN), held a courtesy visit to Murianto, a prominent community leader in Sawah Lunto, West Sumatra. The meeting focused on the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) No. 39/2025 on Community-Based Mining.
Murianto welcomed the issuance of the new regulation, describing it as a significant step forward for local miners who depend on community mining for their livelihood. “We are truly grateful. This regulation brings new hope and legal assurance for the people of Sawah Lunto who have long relied on the mining sector,” he said.
He further expressed his commitment to initiating the establishment of a Community Mining Cooperative in the region.

Basyaruddin welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the importance of strengthening community-based mining institutions. “I am highly optimistic. By forming cooperatives, miners can gain legal protection as well as access to better training, capacity building, and technology,” he stated.
He also highlighted that cooperatives must become instruments for improving the welfare of mining communities.
“Cooperatives must be managed professionally and transparently to deliver maximum benefits for their members. At the national level, IKTN is currently finalizing guidelines and operational standards to support this effort,” Basyaruddin asserted.
The meeting is expected to serve as a momentum for advancing sustainable and equitable community mining in Sawah Lunto. Local government support is also deemed essential to accelerate the formation and development of Community Mining Cooperatives in the region.(*)
