From Volunteers to the Community: 1,000 Food Aid Packages Reach Flood Victims in Medan and Deli Serdang

The INDONESIAN, (Medan) — The Regional Executive Board (DPD) of GRIB Jaya North Sumatra, together with its Task Force, in collaboration with Prabowo–Gibran volunteers and Putune Soedirman, distributed 1,000 food aid packages to residents affected by flash floods in Medan City and Deli Serdang Regency.

The aid, consisting of rice and ready-to-eat meals, was delivered to 10 of the most severely affected locations, including Medan Sunggal District, Sunggal, Medan Helvetia, Bandar Setia, Padang Bulan Medan, Pancur Batu Medan, Simalingkar Medan, Lau Chi, Mabar, Martubung, and Tanjung Mulia.

The activity, themed the “Humanitarian Aid Road Show,” took place from afternoon until late evening on Saturday (November 29, 2025), with the team visiting each affected area directly.

The distribution team was led by the Head of the GRIB North Sumatra Task Force, Govindo Tarigan, accompanied by Treasurer Bagas Sulistyo, along with board members and branch representatives of GRIB Jaya North Sumatra.

In his statement in Sunggal District, Govindo Tarigan emphasized that the initiative reflects the organization’s genuine concern for communities affected by the disaster.

“This activity represents the real compassion of our Chairman, Mr. Syamsul Tarigan, along with the entire GRIB North Sumatra leadership. We came directly to the field because we truly feel the suffering of residents affected by this major flood,” he said.

Meanwhile, Coordinator of Putune Soedirman, Fadli Akbar Darus, stressed that the collaboration represents cross-sector humanitarian synergy to ease the burden on affected communities.

“We are working together with GRIB North Sumatra to stand shoulder to shoulder in helping residents affected by this flash flood,” said Fadli, who also serves as an Advisor to DPD GRIB Jaya North Sumatra.

A similar message was conveyed by Bagas Sulistyo, General Treasurer of the GRIB North Sumatra Task Force, who affirmed that the social action would continue.

“We will continue this program and coordinate with local village administrations and government authorities to ensure that the aid is properly targeted, especially for residents who are most in need,” he stated.

The humanitarian action also received appreciation from local government officials. Naikma Marbun, Head of Helvetia Timur Subdistrict, expressed her gratitude for the volunteers’ concern.

“On behalf of the local government and all residents of Helvetia Timur, we extend our deepest gratitude to DPD GRIB Jaya North Sumatra, the Task Force, Prabowo–Gibran volunteers, and Putune Soedirman for this meaningful assistance. Their direct presence in the community has brought new spirit and hope for us to rise again,” she said.

Similar appreciation was also expressed by Syena Siregar, Head of Helvetia Cinta Damai Subdistrict.

“We sincerely thank and highly appreciate the compassion shown by DPD GRIB Jaya North Sumatra and all volunteers who came directly to help our residents. This assistance has significantly eased the burden of people affected by the flash floods and serves as strong evidence of social solidarity,” she stated.

Also present at the event were Deputy Secretary General Andi Finting, Deputy Secretary General Deto Marbun, Petrus Sembiring, and several other board members.

This humanitarian action stands as concrete proof of the strong commitment of DPD GRIB Jaya North Sumatra, together with Prabowo–Gibran volunteers and Putune Soedirman, in accompanying communities through difficult times caused by natural disasters.
