SOUTH TANGERANG – The South Tangerang Branch Executive Board (DPC) of the Indonesian National Student Movement (GMNI) staged a public demonstration titled Evaluation of the Leadership of the South Tangerang City Government, coinciding with the 17th Anniversary of South Tangerang City on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Chairman of GMNI DPC South Tangerang, Kriston Haluya Situmorang, stated that the protest was a form of concern and genuine love for South Tangerang City, with the hope of encouraging real and meaningful change for the community.
The Action Field Coordinator, Sadam, added,
“This action is a special ‘gift’ for both the people and the South Tangerang City Government. We are here to remind everyone that the 17th anniversary of South Tangerang should not only be celebrated ceremonially, but also accompanied by criticism and evaluation to address existing problems.”
During the demonstration, GMNI South Tangerang highlighted 17 unresolved public issues that, according to them, have not been properly addressed by the city government. These include access to healthcare, public comfort and security, infrastructure development, and the widespread practice of illegal levies.
The protest unfolded in an orderly manner, although minor pushing occurred between demonstrators and security personnel.
“It is unfortunate. We were hoping for an open dialogue with the South Tangerang City Government. However, after 4 to 5 hours, there was no goodwill from the government to meet the protesters and receive our demands,” said one of the speakers during the action.
The demonstration concluded with a press statement in front of the South Tangerang City Hall. Sadam conveyed the list of demands submitted and expressed disappointment over the absence of government representatives. He also emphasized that this action marks the beginning of further movements to come.
