JURK Milenial Appreciates Performance of Sungai Bambu Village Head and North Jakarta Environment Agency: Collaboration in Handling Illegal Dumping Sets an Example

The INDONESIAN, (Jakarta)— Secretary-General of Jakarta Utara Rumah Kita (JURK) Milenial, Ferdiansyah Hermawan, expressed high appreciation and full support for the performance of the Sungai Bambu Village Head, Syaiful Anwar, together with the North Jakarta Environment Agency (Sudin LH) in regulating illegal waste disposal activities under the Kencana Toll Road area.

This strategic move is considered successful in transforming the community’s waste management pattern, shifting from illegal dumping practices to a more organized system by redirecting waste to the Danau Cincin (Cincin Reservoir) Temporary Disposal Site (TPS).

According to Ferdiansyah, this success is inseparable from a collaborative approach that goes beyond mere enforcement, offering concrete solutions oriented toward the residents’ needs.

“We witnessed firsthand that the steps taken are not just a one-time raid, but sustainable solutions that address the root of the problem on the ground,” he stated.

Ferdiansyah highlighted three main policies deemed professional and pro-people:

1. Redirection to Official and Proper Facilities
Residents are directed to dispose of waste at the Danau Cincin TPS, which features a more organized management system, making it more environmentally friendly compared to the previous location under the toll road.

2. Support Facilities for Underprivileged Residents
The Sungai Bambu Village administration provides two dedicated waste collection trucks for residents without access to vehicles, particularly cart pushers. This policy is seen as tangible support for the lower-income community.

3. Commitment to Zero Illegal Levies (Pungli)
Village Head Syaiful Anwar emphasized that there are no illegal charges in waste management. If any service fees exist, they are purely voluntary based on mutual agreement among residents, and are not official or illegal levies.

“This transparency is crucial. Issues of illegal levies in sanitation services have long been a public complaint. Such commitment deserves appreciation and should be emulated,” added Ferdiansyah.

This regulation program is a continuation of efforts initiated since December 2025, involving elements from the Sungai Bambu Village Office, North Jakarta Environment Agency, Tanjung Priok District Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), and the Environmental Implementation Unit.

Furthermore, the direct involvement of the Village Head in socialization campaigns was considered a key success factor. This dialogical approach opened space for public participation, including suggestions to convert the former illegal dumping site into a green open space or children’s playground.

JURK Milenial expressed its readiness to continue acting as a strategic partner to the government in educating the public and ensuring program sustainability.

“A clean environment cannot rely solely on enforcement; it requires collective awareness and consistent leadership. What is being done today is an excellent first step that must be preserved together,” concluded Ferdiansyah.
