Local Entrepreneurs Trapped in Illegal Import Scheme, LBH Ampuh Urges Authorities to Act Against Foreign Syndicates

PRIME NEWS POST

The Indonesian legal advocacy group LBH Ampuh Indonesia has raised alarm over a surge of unbranded and illegal imports flooding the domestic market, warning that such practices are crippling national industries and exposing local entrepreneurs to financial and legal risks.

According to LBH Ampuh Director Joni Sudarso, recent investigations revealed a new scheme involving foreign nationals using Indonesian-registered companies as nominee fronts to conduct illicit import activities. In one case, a Chinese national identified as ZL allegedly imported 88 containers of goods through a local company, sold them without authorization, and funneled the proceeds through a personal bank account  actions that may constitute money laundering and tax evasion.

LBH Ampuh noted that the influx of unbranded goods, particularly from China, has caused major distortions in the textile, manufacturing, and consumer goods sectors, while undermining legitimate local businesses. The group urged stronger coordination among the Attorney General’s Office, PPATK, Immigration, Customs, and the National Police to dismantle the syndicates behind these activities.

“Indonesia must not become a safe haven for illicit foreign capital,” said Sudarso. “Law enforcement must act decisively, and local entrepreneurs who operate legally must be protected.”

LBH Ampuh also called for tighter monitoring of foreign-owned entities, stricter controls on business and residency permits, and mandatory use of corporate bank accounts for import transactions to prevent future abuses.
