Abdullah Kelrey Urges Investigation of Erick Thohir; NIC to Send Letters to President and Law Enforcement Agencies

Jakarta — Abdullah Kelrey, Founder of Nusa Ina Connection (NIC), is urging law enforcement authorities to summon and question Erick Thohir regarding various alleged corruption cases that have emerged in state-owned enterprises (SOEs) over the past five years.

In a statement to the media in Jakarta on Friday (February 13, 2026), Kelrey stated that as the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir holds a strategic position as the Budget User Authority (KPA), who is administratively and institutionally responsible for the governance and oversight of budgets at SOEs.

According to Kelrey, the summons is crucial to provide legal certainty and address the various controversies circulating in the public sphere. He noted that although several issues have been denied or not legally proven, official clarification through an investigation mechanism is still necessary to maintain transparency and accountability.

Kelrey touched on the alleged corruption in fuel imports at PT Pertamina (Persero) in 2025, which sparked rumors of Erick Thohir’s involvement. In the case’s development, the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia publicly stated there was no evidence of Erick’s involvement. However, he said this clarification has not fully quelled public speculation.

Additionally, Kelrey highlighted a public report submitted to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in September 2025 regarding alleged corruption in FIFA grant funds, which also named Erick Thohir. The report remains a public complaint. Even so, Kelrey believes clarification processes still need to be carried out openly for all parties mentioned, including public officials with structural responsibilities.

He also revisited the 2021 PCR procurement issue, which was linked to several officials including Erick Thohir. Although police stated the report lacked sufficient evidence, Kelrey said traces of the issue still serve as a public reference and require open explanation to prevent it from remaining a source of unsubstantiated talk.

“Summoning and questioning someone does not mean declaring them guilty. Instead, it is a legal mechanism to ensure transparency and address public doubts. Given his capacity as the Budget User Authority in a ministry overseeing hundreds of SOEs, it is entirely reasonable for authorities to request direct clarification,” Kelrey emphasized.

Furthermore, Kelrey linked this demand to the numerous major corruption cases in SOEs over recent years, which occurred during Erick Thohir’s tenure as Minister of State-Owned Enterprises. From a state governance perspective, he said positional responsibility requires comprehensive accountability, including from the ministry’s leadership.

As a sign of seriousness, Kelrey stated that NIC will soon send official letters to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as to relevant law enforcement agencies and supervisory bodies, to request that the clarification process be carried out openly, professionally, and without discrimination.

“We will send letters to the President and related institutions so this matter does not become a prolonged controversy. The state must step in to ensure that every public official with structural responsibility is prepared to provide information when needed. This is to maintain public trust in law enforcement and SOE governance,” he said.

Kelrey stressed that this step is not an accusation, but rather moral encouragement for the legal process to proceed objectively and prevent the spread of disinformation and hoaxes that could harm public stability.

He hopes law enforcement authorities will act transparently by summoning all parties with institutional responsibility for SOE management, so public trust in the legal system and government remains intact.
