ALLEGED SMART VILLAGE CORRUPTION PROBE FALLS SHORT OF PUBLIC EXPECTATIONS IN MANDAILING NATAL

PRIME NEWS POST

The INDONESIAN ,(Mandailing)– Prominent North Sumatra youth figure Misron Saidi, widely known as Ade Batubara, has stated that investigations into alleged corruption in the 2023 Smart Village Programme have yet to meet the community’s demand for justice and accountability.

Ade Batubara welcomed the decision by the Mandailing Natal State Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Madina) to name the President Director of PT ISN, identified by his initials MA, as a suspect over misuse of Village Fund allocations for the programme. However, charging a single individual does not answer widespread public questions about other parties allegedly involved in implementation.

“Kejari Madina’s step deserves recognition as a beginning for law enforcement. Yet the public still awaits full disclosure of the case. There must be no impression that legal action stops at one party while others who bear responsibility remain untouched,” Ade Batubara said.

He recalled that Smart Village was rolled out across numerous villages with a substantial budget. Investigations indicate the digital platform failed to operate properly due to alleged neglect of maintenance obligations, resulting in an estimated Rp1.7 billion in potential state losses according to calculations by the Mandailing Natal Regency Inspectorate.

Ade Batubara urged prosecutors to expand inquiries professionally, objectively, and transparently in line with public commitments. Sufficient evidence must lead to accountability for all connected parties under prevailing law.

“The public wants truly thorough enforcement. Anyone proven involved must face proceedings without exception, so that trust in law enforcement remains intact,” he emphasised.

He also echoed calls from academics urging broader investigation, noting that an open, accountable process covering all responsible actors would eliminate swirling speculation.

Ade Batubara expressed hope that Kejari Mandailing Natal would pursue the case to its conclusion, fulfilling anti‑corruption goals and delivering legal certainty and fairness to the people of Mandailing Natal.

“The public fully backs prosecutors in eradicating corruption. This Smart Village case must therefore be uncovered comprehensively, leaving no lingering questions in the community,” he concluded.
