THE INDONESIAN,(Jakarta) — The Kingdom or Principality of Siau is one of the ancient realms that played a vital role in the history of the Siau, Tagulandang, and Biaro (Sitaro) Islands in North Sulawesi.

Subsequently, King Daud Ponto of Bolangitang and his consort, Boki Nanggio Ponto, bore several notable descendants, including:
• King Israel Ponto of Bolangitang;
• King Jacob Ponto of Siau, who reigned from 1851 to 1889.
King Jacob Ponto and Exile by the Dutch
Throughout history, King Jacob Ponto of Siau came into conflict with the Dutch colonial administration. In 1889, he was captured and exiled by the colonial government.
Jacob Ponto was held captive aboard a ship before being deported to the Residency of Cirebon in West Java. He passed away during his exile on 3 May 1890, leaving behind a legacy of resistance remembered in the annals of the Siau Kingdom.
King Salmon Muda Ponto and the Revival of Bolangitang
Alongside Lokombanua II as the founder of the Siau Principality, the history of the Ponto-Pontoh Dynasty also records the pivotal role of King Salmon Muda Ponto.
Salmon Muda Ponto is recognized as the first King of Bolangitang following the dissolution of the Bolangitang Kingdom by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in 1677, when the realm was ruled by Queen Linkakoa.
According to historical accounts, the official installation of King Salmon Muda Ponto took place during the British colonial administration of North Sulawesi around 1811.
His reign marked a significant milestone in the restoration of the Bolangitang authority and the continuity of the Ponto-Pontoh Dynasty.
Two Founding Figures of the Ponto-Pontoh Dynasty
Drawing from oral traditions, genealogical records, and royal histories of North Sulawesi, it is established that the Ponto-Pontoh Dynasty rests upon two central foundational figures:
– Lokombanua II (Pontoulune / King Ponto), who founded the Siau Principality in 1510;
– King Salmon Muda Ponto, the pioneer of the Bolangitang Kingdom’s revival and primary heir to the Ponto-Pontoh Dynasty.
Both figures hold immense historical significance in establishing and preserving the sovereignty of realms that remain an integral part of North Sulawesi’s historical and cultural heritage to this day.
