Garut, West Java — The successful staging of the 2026 Garut Cultural Splendor Festival (GPBG), which has been included in the Archipelago Signature Events curation, marks a significant milestone in strengthening the role of traditional and royal institutions in advancing national culture.
In response to this achievement, His Highness Prince Iftiqar S.A Ponto expressed his hope that the Archipelago Royal Council will continue to play an active role in preserving and developing cultural traditions across the entire nation.
“The success of GPBG 2026 demonstrates that culture is not merely a legacy from the past, but a living force that unites us all. The presence of kings and traditional leaders from various regions serves as clear evidence that the network of traditional institutions across the archipelago holds a strategic role in safeguarding local wisdom and ancestral traditions amid the changing times,” said His Highness Prince Iftiqar S.A Ponto.
He added that the active participation of the Archipelago Royal Council moving forward is of great importance, particularly in strengthening cooperation between different regions and raising awareness of cultural assets among both domestic and international communities.
“Moments like this must be sustained. Collaboration between kings, traditional leaders, and local governments needs to be reinforced, so that cultural preservation is not limited to ceremonial activities alone, but also delivers tangible impacts—both in strengthening national identity and improving public welfare,” he continued.
As widely known, GPBG 2026 was attended by dozens of kings and representatives of royal houses from various parts of the archipelago. Their presence was not only a mark of honour, but also carried a meaningful mission: to ensure the continuity of traditional values, strengthen cultural networks, and promote culture as a pillar of sustainable development.
Building on this success, it is expected that the Archipelago Royal Council will further solidify its position as a leading guardian of traditional dignity, ensuring that the nation’s cultural heritage remains alive, continues to grow, and brings benefits for future generations.
