Breaking into the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) 2026: MD Pictures Unveils Final Poster & Trailer for 402 Korean Haunted Hospital — When Local Folklore Terrorizes the Global Stage

MD Pictures in collaboration with Umbara Brothers Film held a press conference attended by the cast and filmmaking team. The event marked the release of the final poster and final trailer for the highly anticipated cross-border horror film 402 Korean Haunted Hospital, set to hit theaters this year. This upcoming theatrical release promises far more intense layers of terror and deeper mysteries compared to earlier promotional materials.

The newly revealed final poster blends Korean aesthetic style with a thick, palpable supernatural atmosphere that feels instantly chilling. The central focus is a mysterious doll dressed in traditional Korean hanbok, marked with stains of blood — a striking visual that immediately hints at the dark secrets lurking within the hallways of the abandoned hospital.

Meanwhile, the final trailer offers a surprising new glimpse into the story. Although the Indonesian creative team conducted their research at a real haunted hospital in South Korea, the film boldly incorporates a local supernatural element deeply familiar to Indonesian audiences: the Jelangkung spirit-summoning game. Could the presence of this traditional archipelago ritual on foreign soil turn out to be the film’s major plot twist?

Director Anggy Umbara explained that this fusion of horror cultures was a carefully considered creative decision, designed to bring a fresh surprise to fans of the original film Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum by director Jung Bum-Sik.

“We did not want to simply retell the same story. The appearance of the hanbok-clad doll and the Jelangkung ritual inside Yongwon Hospital serves as a cultural bridge, making the terror feel both close to home and entirely unpredictable. This is the most ambitious horror project I have ever directed,” Anggy Umbara stated.

Lead actor Arbani Yasiz also shared his perspective on how his character faces escalating psychological terror throughout the film.

“In this final trailer, audiences will see that the stakes are no longer about views or popularity — they are about survival. My character, Juna, takes viewers directly into the panic of realizing that the local ritual they brought with them has triggered something far more sinister. The tension felt so real even while filming on location,” Arbani Yasiz said.

Adding to this, Saputra Kori emphasized how intense the atmosphere was crafted to maintain the quality of the adaptation while still respecting the original work. “Every corner of Yongwon Hospital in this film is designed to unsettle the mind. The image of the bloodied hanbok doll is just a small part of it; when the Jelangkung scene begins, all of us — even as actors — felt genuine chills. Theater audiences should prepare themselves for a deeply immersive experience,” Saputra Kori remarked.

International Achievement: Selected for the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) 2026

In another proud milestone, the film has gained recognition on the international cinema stage. Before officially terrifying audiences in Indonesia, 402 Korean Haunted Hospital has been selected for the Official Selection at the prestigious Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) 2026, where it will be screened in the high-profile Gala Presentation program.

For international markets, the film will carry the global title Korean Haunted Hospital, while its official release title in South Korea will be 폐병원 402 (Pye-byeong-won 402). This achievement stands as clear proof that the film’s quality and standard of horror can compete on the global cinematic stage.

Martin Lee, Programmer at BiFan, shared the reasoning behind the film’s selection. “Without losing the core premise and tension of the original work, this film thoughtfully explores modern streaming culture and contemporary content consumption patterns, offering a fresh experience relevant to today’s audiences. It brings new excitement to long-time fans while delivering intense suspense and deep fear to those encountering the story for the first time.”
