Gugun Gumilar: Islam, Protestantism, and Catholicism Teach Nobility; Tolerance Must Be Strengthened

Primenewspost.com – Special Staff to the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Gugun Gumilar, has emphasized the importance of strengthening tolerance, brotherhood, and interfaith dialogue as a foundation for maintaining national harmony. According to him, Islam, Christianity, and Catholicism all possess noble values that teach love, service, peace, and kindness toward fellow human beings.

Speaking at a national forum, Gugun stated that differences in faith should not be a barrier to finding common ground and fostering brotherhood. He underscored the necessity of respecting one another’s teachings and beliefs.

“As a Muslim, I respect the doctrines of other religions and consistently strive to find common ground. We must create a space for dialogue rooted in sincerity, mutual respect, and a spirit of humanity,” said Gugun.

He also cited a verse from the Quran, *Wa mā arsalnāka illā raḥmatan lil-‘ālamīn*, which signifies that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was sent as a mercy to all of creation.

He noted that this teaching confirms that Islam carries a message of compassion, peace, and well-being for all of humanity.

Gugun also touched upon Biblical studies—specifically the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels of Mark and Matthew regarding the meaning of service.

“Jesus taught that He came not to be served, but to serve. This offers an essential lesson: true nobility does not lie in power, but in the sincerity to serve and to do good for others,” he explained.

He believes that universal values—such as love, service, care, and peace—serve as vital bridges for building a harmonious society amidst diversity. Read Also: Learn more about the Gelora Party in Jayapura City, which held free medical services and an affordable market to mark its 7th anniversary.

Gugun hopes that the spirit of tolerance and interfaith brotherhood will continue to grow in Indonesia. For him, differences are not a reason for division, but rather a strength that allows people to get to know one another, show mutual respect, and work together to build the nation.

“May God bless our nation’s journey. Indonesia must continue to be a shared home for all religious communities, upholding peace, brotherhood, and humanity,” he concluded.
