The INDONESIAN , (Jakarta)– The Jakarta Branch of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU DKI Jakarta) has spoken out regarding the prolonged conflict within the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU). The branch stated that the two feuding factions have turned Jakarta into a conflict arena and caused upheaval within the organization.

KH Lutfi Hakim, Deputy Chair of NU DKI Jakarta and a Betawi leader, said PWNU DKI Jakarta has been disturbed by the prolonged elite conflict in PBNU, which is centered in Jakarta. According to him, the dispute has not only damaged the organization’s reputation but also disregarded NU’s structural mechanisms and cultural wisdom.

“Jakarta has seemingly been turned into a stage for conflict. From the dismissal of the General Chair to the appointment of the Acting General Chair, all have taken place in Jakarta,” Lutfi Hakim said in an official statement on Tuesday (December 16, 2025).

PWNU DKI Jakarta mapped the PBNU conflict into two groups. First, the “Sultan Group,” referring to the board members backing KH Miftachul Akhyar. The name comes from the Plenary Meeting that appointed KH Zulfa Mustofa as Acting PBNU General Chair, held at Hotel Sultan in Jakarta.

Second, the “Kramat Group,” which supports KH Yahya Cholil Staquf – PBNU General Chair and Mandate Holder of the 34th NU Congress. The name derives from the meeting held at PBNU’s office on Jalan Kramat Raya, Jakarta – initially called a Plenary Meeting but later claimed to be an NU Disaster Response Coordination Meeting.

PWNU DKI Jakarta noted that the conflict has dragged on because it ignores the role of Musytasyar (advisory council) and Masyaikh (senior scholars), who should be the primary references for resolving issues affecting NU members and the organization.

Based on this, PWNU DKI Jakarta firmly urges the AHWA Team of the 34th NU Congress in Lampung to revoke the Rais Aam mandate from KH Miftachul Akhyar and push for the immediate convening of an Extraordinary Congress (Muktamar Luar Biasa/MLB) as a constitutional way to end the dispute.

PWNU DKI Jakarta also stated its readiness to host the MLB in Jakarta if approved by NU’s national leadership structure.

“MLB is the most dignified solution to bring NU back to its foundational principles (khittah), deliberation (musyawarah), and respect for scholars. Jakarta is ready to host the MLB,” Lutfi emphasized.

This stance by PWNU DKI Jakarta signals growing pressure from regional branches on PBNU’s elite to resolve the internal conflict openly, legally, and in line with Nahdlatul Ulama’s traditions.()
