The INDONESIAN , (Jakarta)— A request for medical treatment and inpatient admission submitted by the family and legal representative of a resident at the Benicia Tunas Indonesia rehabilitation centre, identified as Christian, also known as Engkis, has reportedly been denied by the foundation’s management.

The Benicia Tunas Indonesia Foundation is a private social institution providing rehabilitation services for substance abuse — including narcotics, psychotropics, and other addictive substances. The organisation is known for offering physical and mental recovery programmes designed to help individuals reintegrate and function effectively within society.

According to family accounts, the request for medical treatment was first submitted during Christian’s initial month of rehabilitation. The application was formally reintroduced during an on-site visit by the Director of PBHN, accompanied by Christian’s biological mother.

During that meeting, the family reported receiving a seemingly positive response. However, shortly afterwards, they received a WhatsApp message informing them that the foundation’s management had declined the request.

Totop Troitua, S.T., M.H. Director of PBHN and also Chairman of MB PKRI CADSENA explained that the inpatient request was filed because Christian requires surgery to remove metal implants from his leg as part of his medical recovery.

“The need for care and surgery to remove the implants from his leg is a vital medical requirement for Christian. We therefore urge that policies be applied with due consideration for his health condition,” Totop stated.

In the message sent to the family, management reportedly asked them to wait until the rehabilitation programme concludes, noting that Christian had already spent more than two months in care and only a few weeks remained.

This response has raised serious questions for the family and their legal counsel. They argue that with only weeks left in the programme, there should be ample opportunity to coordinate and allow Christian to undergo necessary medical procedures — especially given the family’s readiness to provide full assurance and take complete responsibility.

In response to the situation, Totop Troitua confirmed plans to submit a formal request directly to the National Narcotics Board (BNN), seeking intervention to facilitate dialogue and coordination with the Benicia Tunas Indonesia Foundation so that Christian’s scheduled leg surgery may proceed as medically indicated.

The family urges all parties to prioritise humanitarian principles, health considerations, and the best interests of rehabilitation residents when making decisions regarding their medical care.
