JAKARTA — Renowned fashion designer and multi-talented artist Migi Rihasalay has expressed high praise for the successful conclusion of ART Jakarta 2026, held over three days at JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. This major contemporary art fair featured the participation of galleries from across the globe, bringing together a total of 75 galleries.
“I extend my highest appreciation for an artistic achievement that Indonesia can truly be proud of,” Migi Rihasalay told reporters in Jakarta on Monday (12/10). He noted that he felt deeply honored to attend alongside Eric van Loon as VIP guests to witness the three-day exhibition, which ran from October 2 to 4, 2026.
Migi shared that he thoroughly enjoyed the wide range of artworks on display, both from Indonesian and international artists. “To see such beautiful works of art is truly admirable. What captivated me most was the creativity — ideas that often go beyond what we might imagine. It has been very inspiring, and I may well apply these insights to my future fashion designs,” remarked Migi, together with Eric.
The 2026 edition marks the 16th year of the annual ART Jakarta. “This event stands as a testament to the resilience of contemporary Indonesian art, maintaining strong momentum amid a dynamic global landscape,” Migi explained. He is also known as a painter and environmental collage artist, creating works using natural materials and upcycled items.
This year, ART Jakarta strengthened its commitment to sustainability, presenting galleries from across Southeast Asia and beyond. Of the 75 participating galleries, 42 were from Indonesia and 33 international, including 19 first-time participants. The fair showcased diverse forms of creativity — paintings, kinetic art, and mixed media, among others. “The works on display were excellent and truly compelling,” added Migi, who is also known for painting on glass bottles.
ART Jakarta 2026 also served as a platform for collaboration with lifestyle brands, underscoring the importance of cross-sector support in building a sustainable, inclusive art ecosystem that serves the broader Asian market and contributes to the creative economy.
This is not the first time Migi Rihasalay and Eric van Loon have collaborated or exchanged views on business, art, and fashion. Just two weeks prior to ART Jakarta 2026, the pair also attended ISA Art at Wisma 46, Jakarta. Eric van Loon is widely known as an actor who has appeared in numerous feature films.
