The INDONESIAN (Jakarta) — The Majelis Adat Indonesia (MAI) or Indonesian Traditional Council has officially announced its Central Board Structure as part of efforts to strengthen national traditional institutions based on the noble values of the Nusantara archipelago. This establishment follows the Titah Diraja Nusantara (Royal Decree) Number Special 0455.2210.2025 regarding the Approval for the Establishment of MAI.
Carrying the spirit of “By the Grace of God Almighty, and with the Blessings of the Ancestors and Custodians of Nusantara Traditions,” this structure serves not merely as an organizational framework, but also as a symbol of the unity of traditional forces from across the archipelago under one national banner.
The Secretary General of MAI, His Excellency M. Rafik Datuk Rajo Kuaso, stated that the formation of this structure is a strategic step in restoring the dignity of tradition as the moral foundation of the nation.
“Tradition is the very breath of the nation’s life. It is not merely a heritage, but a guide in maintaining the balance between humanity, nature, and the Creator,” said M. Rafik.
National Traditional Figures within the MAI Structure
In the leadership structure, several Kings and national traditional figures hold key positions, including:
– His Majesty Maharaja Kutai Mulawarman as Chairman of the MAI Advisory Board, serving as the unifying symbol of Nusantara traditions.
– His Majesty Karaeng Polongbangkeng XIV as Coordinator of the Great Council of Nusantara (Steering Committee).
– His Majesty Raja Gunu Datupamusu as a member of the Rajamandala Wasiat Adat (Traditional Legacy Council).
– Tuanku Raja Gontar IV, Dr. Syafri Fadillah Marpaung as member of the Council of Traditional Custodians of Nusantara.
– His Highness Raja Naladuta KRAT, Prof. Dr. Mochamad Eros Soeroso Purbo Nagoro as Head of the Council for Ethics and Traditional Dignity (MEMAN).
– His Highness RB Abi Munawir Al Madani Mertakusuma (Prince Ratu Jayakarta IX) as Head of the Council for the Custody of Decrees and Traditional Oversight.Daily National Management
In its daily operations, MAI is led by:
– His Excellency M. Rafik Datuk Rajo Kuaso as Secretary General.
– His Excellency Raja Bangun Nasution as Deputy Secretary General.
– His Excellency Dedy Warman as Patih (Minister) for Diplomacy and International Traditional Relations.

The MAI structure is further reinforced by various traditional ministries handling strategic sectors, including values and philosophy, customary law, cultural diplomacy, education, economy, communal land rights (hak ulayat), environment, arts and heritage, as well as information and spirituality.
Additionally, His Excellency Endri Hendra Permana, as General Chairman of the Nusantara Brigade (BRINUS), has been entrusted to lead MAI’s Special Task Force to ensure the organization’s tangible presence in upholding traditional dignity and protecting indigenous communities on the ground.
Royal Decree as the Moral Foundation of MAI
The establishment of this structure is rooted in the Titah Diraja Nusantara Number Special 0455.2210.2025, which was formalized in Surabaya on November 22–23, 2025, during a grand forum attended by Kings, Sultans, Queens, and traditional leaders from across the archipelago.
The Decree contains five main affirmations:
1. Fully support the establishment and strengthening of MAI as the nation’s ethical and cultural institution.
2. Preserve noble traditional values as the moral basis and identity of the nation.
3. Reject the misuse of tradition for political or commercial interests.
4. Promote the preservation of culture, arts, and traditional education throughout Nusantara.

M. Rafik emphasized that MAI exists not merely as an organization, but as a cultural and moral movement for the nation.
“MAI is a gathering place for the wisdom of Nusantara. This is a momentum for the revival of tradition, where noble values once again become the guiding light for the nation,” he asserted.
With the establishment of this Central Board Structure, it is hoped that MAI can serve as a guardian of balance between tradition and modernity, and stand at the forefront in protecting and honoring customs throughout Indonesia.
