Stable Outlook as Prabowo–Gibran Administration Nears Two-Year Mark: Sustaining Optimism Through Continuous Reformh

PRIME NEWS POST

The INDONESIAN, (Jakarta) —  As the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka approaches its second year, the public received an optimistic message through the President’s address at the Plenary Cabinet Session on 20 July 2026.

Amid lingering global economic uncertainty, geopolitical conflicts, and unresolved trade tensions, the government has reaffirmed its national development trajectory with confidence that Indonesia remains on the right path.

From an economic and investment perspective, this situation reflects a stable outlook. Far more than a phrase used by international rating agencies, it signals confidence in solid economic fundamentals, manageable systemic risks, and consistent policy direction.

A stable outlook means investors see Indonesia as capable of maintaining fiscal stability, sustaining economic growth, and ensuring policy predictability. For the business sector, this creates greater room to expand investment, generate employment, and strengthen national competitiveness.

President Prabowo’s address makes clear that this stability is not accidental. It stems from deliberate, fundamental reforms—most notably the establishment of Danantara, the National Investment Management Agency, as the country’s sovereign wealth fund consolidating state assets on an unprecedented scale.

With projected assets exceeding USD 1 trillion, Danantara is more than an investment vehicle: it marks a transformation in how national wealth is managed. Professional asset management will enable Indonesia to finance development without excessive reliance on external funding.

Equally significant is the government’s bold restructuring of state-owned enterprises (SOEs). Reducing the number of SOEs from roughly 1,077 to under 830—with a target of approximately 350 entities—underscores efficiency as a core priority.

This reorganization is estimated to cut operational costs by up to Rp50 trillion through streamlined structures, leaner management, reduced overhead for meetings and office leases, and rationalized director and commissioner appointments.

Such efficiency goes beyond budget savings; it signals a paradigm shift: every rupiah of public funds must deliver maximum benefit to the people. As part of the broader SOE family, I view this reform as a pivotal opportunity to strengthen governance across state enterprises.

SOEs are now expected not only to generate profit, but to act as engines of national development, improve public services, drive innovation, and add tangible value to the broader economy.

President Prabowo’s speech also carried a powerful message of leadership. The mid-year review acknowledges progress but also serves as a moment to address shortcomings. His call to the cabinet not to shy away from challenges reflects a leadership style oriented toward solutions rather than rhetoric.

Yet a stable outlook is not the end goal. Stability must translate into inclusive growth. The public will feel its benefits only if bureaucratic reform, SOE efficiency, downstream industrialization, infrastructure development, improved education, and job creation advance in tandem.

Investor confidence must be matched by rising public welfare. High economic growth holds meaning only if it reduces poverty, lowers unemployment, expands the middle class, and lifts purchasing power.

Indonesia possesses enormous strengths: a demographic dividend, abundant natural resources, a strategic geopolitical position, and a robust domestic market. With improved governance and steady institutional reform, the nation is well-placed to emerge as one of the world’s leading economies in the coming decades.

As the Prabowo–Gibran administration approaches its second year, this optimism is well-founded. It must be preserved through fiscal discipline, transparency, accountability, legal certainty, and policy consistency. That is the true meaning of a stable outlook: building enduring trust.

As citizens, we hope the ongoing wave of reform will serve as a solid foundation toward the vision of Indonesia Maju 2045. The government has set the course; the business community stands ready to support it; and the people will be the ultimate beneficiaries of every policy implemented.

May the spirit of hard work, efficiency, innovation, and unity expressed by President Prabowo infuse new energy—strengthening Indonesia’s sovereignty and prosperity amid an ever-changing global landscape.
