The INDONESIAN (JAKARTA) — A coalition of civil society groups, including the Anti-Corruption Community Alliance (FORMASI), the Student Executive Board Alumni Forum (FABEM), and Prabowo 08 Volunteers, staged a protest at the KPK Red and White Building. The demonstration was held to voice strong support and demand decisive action from the KPK in handling the alleged corruption case at the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN).
Bang Jalih Pitoeng, Chair of FORMASI, stated that the corruption allegations at ATR/BPN — particularly those involving the Bogor National Land Agency office — have drawn widespread public attention following the KPK’s recent sting operation, which led to eight individuals being named suspects. Investigations have since revealed possible involvement of individuals believed to be close aides of Minister Nusron Wahid.
However, the coalition views the Minister’s failure to appear before the KPK for questioning on two separate occasions as a clear disregard for the rule of law.
“He has been summoned twice and failed to attend twice. We do not wish to interfere in the KPK’s legal process, but given that he has repeatedly been absent, we fully support the KPK in enforcing his mandatory appearance,” Bang Jalih Pitoeng told reporters outside the KPK headquarters.
Protest representatives had hoped to meet directly with KPK leadership to submit their demands. Although the Commissioners were not present at the time, demonstrators maintained order and respected the institution’s ongoing procedures.
The coalition has set this Friday, October 16, as a benchmark for the KPK to demonstrate firm action. If no progress is made regarding Nusron Wahid’s legal status or appearance by then, the coalition warns it will mobilize a much larger wave of protests.
“We will continue to take to the streets, building unity among activists, anti-corruption organizations, student groups, and youth associations. Corruption destroys our nation — it is the enemy of us all,” Bang Jalih added.
The coalition also expressed appreciation to media outlets that continue to report on corruption eradication efforts in Indonesia, emphasizing that the public will remain vigilant and follow developments in Nusron Wahid’s case until it reaches a just conclusion.
