National Lawyer Mohammad Yusron Kholidi Harassed While Handling Sound Horeg Dispute In Kediri

The INDONESIAN– National lawyer and legal practitioner Mohammad Yusron Kholidi, S.Sy., S.H., M.H. has reported that he was subjected to harassment, defamation, and bullying while handling a “Battle Sound Horeg” dispute in Sempu, Kediri, on November 1, 2025.

Acting as legal counsel for one of the Sound Horeg business owners involved in allegations of defamation, bullying, and violations of the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law, Yusron was carrying out his professional duties to mediate a conflict between two Sound Horeg operators.

However, he became the target of attacks from several accounts and groups claiming to be Sound Horeg fans. On social media, he was accused of interfering in the dispute between the business owners and was criticized for being “overly sensitive” about the Sempu Battle Sound event. Some parties also compared the case to the Battle Sound in Sumbersewu, Banyuwangi — an event known for extreme noise and MC verbal clashes.

This comparison was deemed inappropriate and only used to attack and discredit the lawyer, who was working in accordance with professional rules.

Yusron’s Legal Steps

Facing ongoing harassment, Yusron has taken firm action by preparing a Judicial Review (JR) to be filed with the Supreme Court. The JR aims to clarify regulations on the prohibition of extreme noise and the Sound Horeg phenomenon in Indonesia.

To strengthen the JR petition, he has formed a special litigation team and will present witnesses and experts, including:

– East Java Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), which issued Fatwa No. 1 of 2025 declaring Sound Horeg haram
– The ulema who initiated the fatwa
– Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) health experts
– Psychologists
– Other social and legal experts

Shift in Stance After Harassment

Previously, Yusron was known for providing objective legal views. He had even stated that Sound Horeg activities could continue as long as they complied with regulations.

However, after being harassed and degraded by fans and one Sound Horeg business owner from Malang, his stance changed. He felt his profession was not being respected, despite holding official power of attorney from his client to resolve the dispute.

Hopes for the Government

The case highlights the need for strict regulations on Sound Horeg. The government is urged to:

– Regulate and restrict Sound Horeg activities involving extreme noise
– Monitor activities that risk violating laws and disturbing the public
– Protect the legal profession in line with the Lawyers Law, ensuring lawyers are not targeted for intimidation while performing their duties
