The INDONESIAN ( Jakarta )– The statement by Habiburokhman, Head of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), describing Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo as “one of the best National Police Chiefs of all time” during a DPR Plenary Session on Tuesday (9 June 2026) is seen as reinforcing a view previously put forward since 2024 by R. Haidar Alwi, Founder of the Haidar Alwi Institute (HAI).

While delivering remarks at the session to endorse the revised Police Bill at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Habiburokhman openly expressed his appreciation for National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

“Our respected Police Chief, Listyo Sigit Prabowo. He rarely attends sessions here. One of the best Police Chiefs of all time — let’s give him a round of applause,” Habiburokhman said before the plenary participants.

Responding to the statement, R. Haidar Alwi noted that what the Head of Commission III had conveyed essentially confirmed facts and achievements that have long been visible to the public.

“I am grateful that more and more national figures are finally taking an objective view of the various achievements of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) under the leadership of General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. What Mr. Habiburokhman stated today is in line with what I have said since 2024: that General Listyo Sigit Prabowo deserves to be called the best Police Chief of all time,” Haidar Alwi stated in Jakarta on Thursday (11 June 2026).

According to Haidar Alwi, the success of a Police Chief cannot be measured by a single program or event, but rather by their ability to maintain national security stability, improve the quality of public services, strengthen law enforcement, carry out institutional reform, and build public trust in the police force.

He recalled that at the start of his tenure, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo faced major challenges, including the spread of identity-based issues, political polarization, and high public expectations for police reform. Yet all these challenges were addressed through an inclusive, humane, and service-oriented leadership style.

“He is not only close to the government but also maintains good communication with religious scholars, community leaders, activists, academics, and various elements of society. It is this approach that has successfully preserved social stability and minimized the potential for conflict amid Indonesia’s political dynamics,” he explained.

Haidar Alwi highlighted that one of General Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s greatest achievements was his oversight of key national strategic agendas, including the 2024 General Elections, which were conducted in a relatively safe, peaceful, and orderly manner.

This success, he said, stemmed from the police’s use of preventive, pre-emptive, and persuasive strategies, ensuring that provocations, hoaxes, and attacks against the institution did not escalate into larger security disruptions.

Beyond maintaining national security, Haidar Alwi also emphasized the force’s institutional transformation in recent years. Technology-based public service innovations — such as the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system, online driver’s license applications, digitalized police administration, and various modern service platforms — have significantly improved service quality for the public.

“The digital transformation undertaken by the police demonstrates that the institution continues to adapt to changing times. Services have become faster, more transparent, more accessible, and increasingly accountable,” he added.

In the area of law enforcement, Haidar Alwi also commended the police for their success in uncovering cases involving corruption, narcotics, conventional and online gambling, cybercrime, transnational offenses, and other crimes that harm both the public and the state.

“The resolution of thousands of cases involving corruption, narcotics, gambling, and other offenses shows that the police remain active in carrying out their law enforcement duties to protect the public and safeguard national interests,” he stressed.

Furthermore, he cited the effectiveness of the 2026 Operasi Ketupat (annual security operation ahead of Eid al-Fitr) as tangible proof of the Police Chief’s leadership in fostering coordination across government ministries and agencies. The decline in traffic accidents during the homecoming and return flows for Eid demonstrated the police’s commitment to providing real protection for the public.

In addition, Haidar Alwi appreciated the police’s active role in supporting various national strategic programs, including food security, strengthening community economic resilience, humanitarian aid, healthcare services, disaster response, and initiatives to improve human resources in support of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

“Today’s police force is not merely a law enforcer, but also a partner to the community in maintaining social stability, supporting national development, strengthening food security, and helping resolve issues down to the village level,” he said.

According to Haidar Alwi, these achievements make General Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s tenure one of the most progressive periods in the history of the modern Indonesian National Police.

He emphasized that appreciation for the Police Chief does not mean closing the door to evaluation and constructive criticism. On the contrary, these achievements should serve as a foundation to further strengthen the police’s professionalism, transparency, accountability, and service quality.

“Appreciation should never stop improvement. However, if we assess objectively based on achievements, institutional reform, service modernization, success in maintaining national security, law enforcement performance, and closeness to the community, I maintain that General Listyo Sigit Prabowo is the best Police Chief of all time. And today, the statement from the Head of Commission III confirms that this view is gaining broader recognition,” R. Haidar Alwi concluded.
