The Gerakan Mahasiswa dan Pemuda Cinta Polri (GMP-CP) held a peaceful protest at the Indonesian National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) to demand accountability from the police leadership over allegations of misconduct involving a high-ranking officer and a female police officer in Jambi.
*Protesters Demand Action*
The protesters, who carried banners and shouted slogans, demanded that the police chief take stern action against the officer involved. “We support and urge the police chief to take firm action against the officer who has tarnished the good name of the police institution,” said Syahril, the field coordinator of GMP-CP.
*Allegations of Misconduct*
The allegations of misconduct surfaced on social media, with a user claiming that a high-ranking officer in Jambi was involved in an extramarital affair with a female police officer. The GMP-CP demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and called for transparency in the investigation process.
*Four Demands*
The GMP-CP presented four demands to the police chief:
1. To take firm action against police officers who violate the code of ethics and tarnish the institution’s reputation.
2. To thoroughly investigate the allegations of misconduct and take action against those involved.
3. To provide transparency in the investigation process and keep the public informed.
4. To remove the officer from their position if found guilty of misconduct.
*A Call for Integrity*
The GMP-CP emphasized that their protest was not an attack on the police institution but a call for integrity and accountability. “This is a moment for the police chief to clean up the institution and take firm action against officers who violate the code of ethics,” said Syahril.
