The INDONESIAN, CENTRAL LOMBOK – The Republic of Indonesia Student and Youth Movement (GMPRI) for West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has described the termination of employment (PHK) of hundreds of contract workers in Central Lombok Regency as an inhumane measure that could impact community character and morale.

Rindawanto Evendi (Rindhot), Chairman of GMPRI NTB, strongly condemned the regional government’s decision, which he deemed hasty and premature.

“Teaching is a noble profession and the main pillar of national progress. Don’t they realize that without teachers’ contributions, they would not be able to enjoy the facilities available today?” Rindhot stressed when speaking to the press.

He further noted that Central Lombok has strong potential in tourism and agriculture as key economic drivers of the region. However, he said the local government lacks clear ideas and strategies to tackle this issue.

“We suspect the government has paid little attention to the people’s fate. Before this policy is finalized, we urge relevant parties to consider the workers’ current situation, as they are facing mental and emotional strain,” he said.

Rindhot emphasized that the contract workers are believed to be motivated not merely by salary, but by a hope for empathy and humane treatment from the Central Lombok Regency Government.
