IKASI FH UBK Stands Ready to Assist Former Student Body Chief Herwanto Nurmansyah: Do Not Judge Anyone Before Legal Facts Are Established

PRIME NEWS POST

The INDONESIAN – The Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law, Bung Karno University ( IKASI FH UBK ) has stated it is prepared to provide legal assistance to Muhammad Abdi Maludin, former Chairman of the Faculty Student Executive Board (BEM), following controversy over his admission that he received money ahead of a student protest near the State Palace.

The statement was delivered by Herwanto Nurmansyah, SH, MH, Coordinator of IKASI FH UBK, after a discussion with association members at the university campus in Central Jakarta. He noted that before issuing an official stance, the group gathered information from multiple sources, including the rectorate and academic community.

Herwanto, who also serves as Chairman‑General of the United Advocates Front (BARADATU), said the association views Muhammad Abdi Maludin’s willingness to admit receiving funds as an act of honesty worthy of respect — even though the admission carries significant consequences and risk.

“Honesty is a costly gift; do not expect it from those of little worth. We see our junior’s courage in stating facts as he knows them as an act requiring extraordinary bravery, undertaken with full awareness of the risks he must bear,” Herwanto said.

Based on available information, Herwanto emphasised that the money received did not result in the protest being cancelled — a point he said must be considered when assessing the full situation.

“If the matter is to be investigated thoroughly, it should be handed over to law‑enforcement authorities so that all facts may be revealed objectively and transparently. The public must not rush to conclusions based only on partial information circulating widely,” he stated.

IKASI FH UBK also urged the public to refrain from verbal abuse or issuing social condemnation before clarification and legal processes are complete.

As a legal practitioner, Herwanto reaffirmed that everyone is entitled to fair treatment under the law.

“If wrongdoing is found, let the law judge it according to its proper measure. No one should be condemned by public opinion before the full facts are known,” he stressed.

The association also expressed regret over media reports and social‑media narratives that appear to steer opinion without presenting the full context. It called on the public to verify information carefully before accepting or sharing it.

From IKASI FH UBK’s perspective, allegations of bribery remain to be proven legally. Herwanto explained that bribery is defined as giving something of value intended to influence the recipient’s decisions or conduct.

“If someone receives money but does not act as the giver intended, in our view this circumstance must still be tested legally — it cannot automatically be classified as bribery. We leave full assessment to law‑enforcement bodies based on available evidence,” he clarified.

He added that IKASI FH UBK stands ready to accompany Muhammad Abdi Maludin throughout clarification and legal proceedings to ensure his rights remain protected.

As previously reported, Muhammad Abdi Maludin acknowledged receiving Rp 20 million said to be linked to planned student action, yet stated the demonstration proceeded exactly as scheduled — a disclosure that drew widespread public attention and mixed reactions.

IKASI FH UBK expressed hope that all parties respect the principle of presumption of innocence and allow law‑enforcement authorities to investigate professionally, objectively, and transparently, ensuring legal certainty for all involved.(*)
