PII National Chairman Kevin Prayoga Backs Police Chief’s Crackdown on Illegal Online Lending and Gambling

The INDONESIAN, JAKARTA — Kevin Prayoga, Chairman of the Central Board of the Islamic Students of Indonesia (PB PII), has expressed his support for the National Police Chief’s efforts to intensify the crackdown on illegal online lending and gambling through blocking access and dismantling involved networks.

According to Kevin, these measures are a vital part of the State’s duty to protect the public — especially young people and students — from an increasingly alarming wave of digital crimes.

He emphasized that illegal online lending and gambling are no longer merely economic or legal violations; they have grown into a serious social problem capable of destroying the nation’s younger generation.

“We support the Police Chief in strengthening efforts to eradicate illegal online lending and gambling. The State must ensure that digital spaces do not become breeding grounds for practices that harm society — particularly our youth,” Kevin Prayoga stated.

He added that blocking illegal websites and apps must be accompanied by firm legal action targeting the masterminds behind these operations. Authorities must not stop at simply restricting access while the networks and those profiting from such practices continue to operate unchecked.

“This requires a comprehensive approach. It is not enough to block a website or application; the networks, financial flows, and key figures driving these illegal operations must also be uncovered,” he stressed.

Furthermore, Kevin highlighted that enforcement must go hand-in-hand with improved digital literacy, character education, and greater legal awareness among students.

Young people, he noted, need both protection and education so they do not fall prey to false promises of instant wealth that ultimately damage their lives and future prospects.

“Students must be active participants in building a healthy, productive digital environment. Technology should serve education and empowerment — not become a gateway for exploitation and digital harm,” he added.

PB PII, Kevin continued, urges stronger collaboration between the Police, government agencies, educational institutions, families, and youth organizations to strengthen both prevention and enforcement efforts.

He hopes the Police Chief’s decisive measures mark the beginning of a sustained national commitment toward building a digital ecosystem that is safe, healthy, and aligned with the public interest.

“Protecting young people from illegal lending and gambling is how we safeguard Indonesia’s future. The law must be firmly upheld, prevention strengthened, and education placed at the very foundation of our response,” Kevin concluded.
