The Indonesian (Jakarta) – The Maluku Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Prof. Dr. Dadang Hartanto, S.H., S.I.K., M.Si, visited the victim of the assault in the Lorong Putri area, Batu Merah Village, Ambon City, who is currently undergoing intensive treatment at Bhayangkara Hospital of the Maluku Regional Police, Tantui, Ambon.
The visit by the Maluku Police Chief did not provide any assurance to the victim’s family regarding the handling of this case or the legal process against the perpetrators, who are still roaming free to this day. This is a form of negligence by the Maluku Regional Police, as the perpetrators have not yet been arrested and subjected to legal proceedings.
Muhamad Aswan Kelian, S.H., CPP, from the National Board of Directors (DPN) of the Legal Aid Institute (LBH-PHIGMA), emphasized that the statement made by the Maluku Police Chief to the perpetrators who are still at large, urging them to surrender voluntarily, contains elements of “resignation” in thoroughly investigating the stabbing case.
According to Aswan Kelian, the Maluku Police Chief should have already taken serious action to implement firm measures in accordance with applicable legal procedures, without waiting for the perpetrators to surrender themselves to the authorities. This is indeed a form of negligence by the Maluku Police Chief, as they have been unable to arrest the perpetrators for legal processing.
“The Maluku Police Chief must immediately take firm action against the perpetrators, who to this day are still roaming free without feeling the slightest guilt toward the victim’s family, who are currently awaiting legal justice and the recovery of brother Gozi Rumain, who is fighting to stay alive at Bhayangkara Hospital,” he asserted firmly.
He explained that if the police simply sit back and wait for the stabbing perpetrators to surrender voluntarily, without any firm action from the Maluku Police Chief in accordance with applicable legal procedures, then we are certain that the police will be unable to arrest the perpetrators, and this case will stagnate without any ongoing legal process.
“We need firmness from the Maluku Police Chief in handling this stabbing case, because the victim’s family has fully entrusted the law enforcers to conduct a thorough investigation process so that the victim’s family can obtain legal justice.”
We will continue to monitor and follow the developments of the stabbing case currently being handled by the Maluku Regional Police. If the perpetrators are not arrested in the near future, we assure you that we will take other measures, including holding a press conference with our “Statement of Position” in front of the National Police Headquarters regarding the negligence of the Maluku Police Chief, who has been weak in thoroughly investigating the stabbing case.
