The INDONESIAN (BOGOR) — The handling of an alleged assault case involving lawyer Titin Hartati, S.H., M.Kn., has drawn public scrutiny and raised serious questions about legal enforcement processes in Indonesia.
Siti Saripah was officially named a suspect on 15 March 2026, yet to date she has not been placed in state detention.
The alleged assault took place on Friday, 19 December 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM WIB. According to the victim’s account, Siti Saripah arrived at a residence in Bogor accompanied by around 30 people. The group allegedly forced their way in, pushing and breaking down the door, causing structural damage.
Once inside, Siti Saripah is accused of physically assaulting Titin Hartati — who was at the time lawfully performing her professional duties under a valid power of attorney to safeguard, occupy, maintain, and manage the property belonging to Hartono Kusnan.
The victim sustained bruises and a broken toe. The incident was reported to the Babakan Madang Police Station on 20 December 2025, under report number STPP/173/XII/2025/Jbr/Res Bgr/Sek Bbk Madang.
Suspect Named — Why Still Free?
Following investigations and witness examinations, investigators formally designated Siti Saripah as a suspect via Determination Letter No. S.Tap/08/III/2026/Reskrim, dated 15 March 2026.
However, the victim has since publicly questioned the legal basis and reasoning behind the suspect’s continued absence from state detention.
According to information received by the victim, investigators previously assessed the suspect as cooperative. As of 6 August 2026, the case file has reportedly been submitted to the Cibinong District Prosecutor’s Office, yet the suspect remains listed as being under city supervision, not formal detention.
“We question why a suspect declared as such since 15 March 2026 has still not been detained. What is the legal justification? Is there a specific legal provision that exempts her from detention?” Titin Hartati stated.
The victim further urged law enforcement authorities to provide full transparency to dispel growing public speculation.
“We do not allege such interference has occurred — but precisely because doubts exist, everything must be laid open and examined objectively. We cannot allow the public to suspect bribes, favors, or intervention behind this decision,” she emphasized.
Transparency, she added, is essential to ensure the rule of law is upheld fairly, openly, and without exception.
The Legal Profession Must Be Protected
Titin Hartati also stressed that she was acting in her official capacity as a lawyer under a valid power of attorney at the time of the incident.
“This is not merely a personal matter — it concerns the dignity and protection of the legal profession itself. When a lawyer is assaulted while performing their professional duties, the case deserves fair, professional, objective, and legally sound handling,” she said.
The victim continues to suffer physical and psychological effects, including lingering trauma and an injury to her toe that has not fully healed.
Equal Application of Law Demanded
Beyond the alleged assault, the victim also reported receiving threats and intimidation, as well as alleged interference with assets belonging to the heirs of H. Abdul Wahab at multiple locations.
She further noted that Siti Saripah is listed as a reportee in a separate case within the jurisdiction of North Jakarta Metro Police, under report number LP/B/124/SPKT/Polres Metro Jakut/Polda Metro Jaya, dated 23 January 2026.
In light of all these factors, the victim called on law enforcement to uphold the victim’s rights and ensure every legal procedure is followed in accordance with the law.
“We ask for no special treatment — only justice, transparency, and legal certainty. If there are valid legal grounds for not detaining the suspect, explain them publicly. Ambiguity only creates the impression that the law is applied differently for different people,” Titin remarked.
She expressed hope that police and prosecutors would provide clear answers regarding the case status, the reasoning behind the suspect’s non-detention, and guarantee an objective and professional legal process.
“We still believe in the rule of law. That is why we demand this case be handled openly, fairly, and professionally. No lawyer performing their duty should be denied the legal protection they are entitled to,” she concluded.
