The INDONESIAN , (Yogjakarta)— The use of drone technology is opening new possibilities in the modernisation of power infrastructure maintenance. PT Duta Topkey Energi has successfully demonstrated its insulator-cleaning drone, an innovative solution designed to clean high-voltage overhead line insulators while prioritising workplace safety and operational efficiency.
The technology demonstration took place on Tuesday (13/10/2026), from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIB, at the External Unit of the Transmission and Substation Service Office in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, under the Central Java Transmission Division, Directorate of Transmission.
This innovation offers a vital alternative for transmission line maintenance — particularly the dangerous task of cleaning insulators at great heights, a job that has long been performed manually by technicians at significant risk. The unmanned drone assumes this hazardous work, operated remotely from the ground.
Through drone technology, PT Duta Topkey Energi aims to deliver a maintenance approach that adapts to advancing industry standards. The innovation received positive feedback from Daniel Tampubolon, Director of Transmission and Planning, who welcomed the initiative to explore drone-based solutions for power network upkeep.
The encouraging response reinforces the company’s commitment to developing technology solutions that prioritise workplace safety, operational effectiveness, and reliable energy infrastructure. Ensuring continuous power supply and network reliability makes technological innovation in maintenance a critical component of modern energy management.
Novita Emilda, S.E., M.M., President Director of PT Duta Topkey Energi, stated that the insulator-cleaning drone forms part of the company’s commitment to delivering technological solutions that make energy sector maintenance safer and more efficient.
“Traditionally, insulator cleaning on transmission lines has been done manually by personnel working at height — a high-risk task. Through this drone innovation, we are offering an alternative method that is far safer, while also being more effective and efficient,” Novita said following the demonstration.
She noted that digital transformation presents an opportunity for the power industry to modernise its practices. “Deploying drones is not merely about adopting new equipment; it represents a broader push toward digital transformation in Indonesia’s energy infrastructure management,” explained Novita.
However, she emphasised that widespread adoption requires comprehensive technical evaluation. Safety protocols, equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and field performance will all be assessed before the technology is fully deployed.
Novita added that PT Duta Topkey Energi hopes to further refine the innovation through close collaboration with PLN and relevant stakeholders. “We look forward to advancing this technology alongside our partners, ensuring it meets all technical and safety standards before broader implementation,” she said.
As a technical solutions provider for the energy sector, PT Duta Topkey Energi continues to drive innovation aligned with industry needs — particularly through technologies that enhance transmission line maintenance. By keeping safety and system reliability as top priorities, the company envisions drone technology becoming a key tool in building a more adaptive, resilient power infrastructure for the future.
