The INDONESIAN (Jakarta)— The General Chairman of GMPRI National Board, who also serves as the Daily National Chairman of KNPI National Board, Raja Agung Nusantara, expressed high appreciation for the firm measures taken by the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) in addressing the alleged dissemination of personal data on social media.
According to him, the stance taken by the Governor reflects courage and a genuine commitment to upholding the law, particularly regarding personal data protection, which has become a critical issue in the digital era.
“The Governor’s action deserves appreciation as a demonstration of the state’s firmness in protecting citizens’ right to privacy. This is not merely an individual matter, but concerns the fundamental principles of personal data protection as regulated by law,” stated Raja Agung Nusantara.
As reported, the case originated from a report filed by the Governor against the Director of NTB Care, Rohyatil Wahyuni Bourhany, over allegations of unauthorized distribution of personal data via social media. The report has been followed up by the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of the NTB Regional Police, which subsequently summoned the reported party for clarification.
The handling of the case has entered the investigation phase based on Law No. 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection, along with other relevant legal provisions.
Furthermore, Raja Agung Nusantara also commended the NTB Regional Police for their rapid and professional response in handling the case.
“We observed that the NTB Police acted swiftly and promptly in responding to this report. This demonstrates that law enforcement authorities are present and serious in taking action against any alleged legal violations, especially those occurring in the digital space,” he emphasized.
He views the police’s quick action as a positive signal to the public that there is no room for lawbreaking, including in the use of social media.
On the other hand, Raja Agung Nusantara also reminded the public of the importance of maintaining a balance between freedom of expression and legal responsibility.
“Freedom of speech is the right of every citizen, but it must be exercised responsibly. The dissemination of personal data without consent cannot be justified in any form,” he added.
Amidst the ongoing developments, the reported party has stated their willingness to cooperate and respect the legal process, although they requested a rescheduling of the clarification summons due to prior commitments.
Concluding his statement, Raja Agung Nusantara hopes that the legal process will proceed objectively, transparently, and fairly for all parties involved.
“We urge that the entire process is carried out in accordance with applicable legal corridors, upholding the principles of justice, and serving as an important lesson for the public to maintain ethics and legality in the digital space,” he concluded.
