The INDONESIAN, (MEDAN)— Tuanku Raja Gontar IV, Dr. Drs. Syafri Fadillah Marpaung, S.E., M.Pd., Al-Hajj, the 17th Generation of the Aru Kingdom, attended the 2026 Pancasila Day Commemoration Ceremony for the North Sumatra Provincial level, held at Astaka Field, Jalan Pancing, Medan, on Monday (1/6/2026).
The solemn ceremony was led directly by the Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, and attended by members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), community leaders, religious figures, customary leaders, youth representatives, and various elements of society, who gathered together to commemorate the birth of Pancasila, the foundational philosophy of the Republic of Indonesia.
On the same occasion, Tuanku Raja Gontar IV also shared his views during the Communication Forum of the Indonesian Customary Council (MAI), held on June 1, 2026, which was attended by Kings, Sultans, Datuks, Queens, and customary leaders from various regions across the archipelago. During the forum, these traditional leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to safeguarding national unity, strengthening cultural values, and supporting the implementation of Pancasila as the foundation of national life and state governance.
According to Tuanku Raja Gontar IV, Pancasila is not merely the basis of the state, but also a reflection of noble values that have long existed and evolved within the traditions of Indonesia’s indigenous communities. Therefore, the presence of customary societies and their local wisdom must remain an integral part of national development.
“Customary traditions, culture, and Pancasila form an inseparable unity in the journey of the Indonesian nation. Values such as mutual cooperation, deliberation, brotherhood, and social justice—all enshrined in Pancasila—have long been the very lifeblood of indigenous communities throughout the Nusantara archipelago,” stated Tuanku Raja Gontar IV.
As part of the event series, Tuanku Raja Gontar IV also had the opportunity to hold a friendly meeting and pose for photographs with the Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, and Mrs. Kahiyang Ayu Bobby Nasution. Additionally, he met with Police Brigadier General Tata, representatives of the eight ethnic and cultural groups of North Sumatra, the Head of the North Sumatra Provincial Tourism Office along with his staff, and a number of other community figures.
Tuanku Raja Gontar IV’s presence at the Pancasila Day commemoration serves as a tangible expression of support from royal circles and indigenous communities for efforts to strengthen national unity, reinforce national character, and preserve the nation’s cultural heritage amid the dynamics of modern development.
The momentum of the 2026 Pancasila Day is expected to further strengthen synergy between the government, indigenous communities, and all elements of the nation in realizing an Indonesia that is advanced, sovereign, culturally distinct, and firmly grounded in the noble values of Pancasila as the unifying ideology of the nation.
“Pancasila is the great home for all the children of this nation, while customs and culture are the roots that keep Indonesia’s unity strong, from Sabang to Merauke,” Tuanku Raja Gontar IV concluded.
