The INDONESIAN — In the first year of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s administration, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has played a vital role in public life and stood as an inseparable part of the government’s effort to realize Asta Cita the Eight National Aspirations. From law enforcement to social collaboration in food security, Polri’s commitment continues to evolve alongside the nation’s priorities.
From January to October 2025, police records show over 38,000 narcotics cases uncovered with 51,000 offenders arrested and nearly 200 tons of drugs seized. This massive crackdown aligns with President Prabowo’s Asta Cita priority number seven: eradicating drugs to their roots. On October 29, 2025, President Prabowo personally attended the destruction of 214.84 tons of seized narcotics worth Rp29.37 trillion at the National Police Headquarters a symbolic act reinforcing the government’s firm stance against narcotics abuse that threatens the nation’s future generation.
Beyond narcotics, the Cyber Crime Directorate of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) has handled over 1,200 online gambling cases, naming 1,400 suspects and blocking more than 180,000 illegal sites. Thirteen money laundering cases linked to online gambling worth more than Rp1 trillion in assets were also investigated. These achievements illustrate Polri’s growing capability in tackling cross-border and digital-era crimes.
Yet Polri’s role extends beyond enforcement. In support of the national food security agenda, the Police cultivated 429,000 hectares of cornfields, yielding 2.08 to 2.5 million tons of corn during the first and second quarters of 2025. The institution also took part in the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) by establishing 645 Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) benefiting over 600,000 people nationwide. This innovation in community-based food systems drew international praise from The Rockefeller Foundation, which lauded Polri’s rapid execution, efficient management, and high-quality infrastructure design.
Modernizing the Police
The leadership of General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the National Police Chief, has earned public recognition for his efforts to rebuild public trust and advance institutional reform through Polri Presisi a vision of Predictive, Responsiveness, Transparency, and Justice-based policing.
Digital transformation has been key, with online services such as e-SIM, e-SKCK, and digital complaint platforms helping reduce bureaucracy and corruption risks. Internally, the Police Chief enforces strict accountability, taking firm actions against misconduct while fostering professionalism and human rights awareness across all ranks.
The formation of the Police Transformation Reform Team, initiated by President Prabowo, reflects a strategic step toward sustainable internal reform strengthening institutional integrity rather than undermining authority. Reform is not meant to weaken Polri, but to solidify its foundation as a modern civil institution rooted in integrity and public service.
Polri’s transformation is a continuation of the post-1998 Reform mandate that separated the police from the military, reaffirming its civilian nature in upholding law, order, and democracy. In this sense, maintaining Polri as a symbol of civilian power is vital for preserving Indonesia’s democratic fabric.
A strong police force is not defined by fear, but by trust. Through modernization, transparency, and ethical strength, Polri aims to remain the people’s guardian a law enforcement body that is not only firm in authority but also humane in service.
