Jakarta – The Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of ARUN Jakarta has expressed its full support for accelerating the passage of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT), which is currently still under deliberation in the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Republik Indonesia.
In its official statement, DPD ARUN Jakarta emphasized that the bill is a crucial step toward providing legal certainty and proper protection for millions of domestic workers in Indonesia.
The Chair of DPD ARUN Jakarta, Paisal Sangadji, stressed that the enactment of the bill should no longer be delayed.
“The Domestic Workers Protection Bill represents the state’s presence in safeguarding a group of workers who have long been in a vulnerable position. It is time they receive their fundamental rights as workers,” Paisal stated.
He further added that domestic workers have long faced serious issues, ranging from unclear employment status and inhumane working hours to risks of violence and exploitation.
“The state must step in to provide real protection. We can no longer allow this sector to operate without legal certainty,” he affirmed.
DPD ARUN Jakarta also expressed appreciation to various parties, including civil society and advocacy groups such as the Jaringan Nasional Advokasi Pekerja Rumah Tangga, for continuously overseeing the legislative process.
Moreover, ARUN Jakarta urged all stakeholders, both the government and the House of Representatives, to promptly finalize the deliberation and pass the bill into law in the near future.
“We hope this process will not be prolonged again. The current momentum must be utilized to ensure real protection for domestic workers,” Paisal added.
For context, the Domestic Workers Protection Bill has been under discussion for more than two decades and remains one of the priority agendas in Indonesia’s National Legislative Program.
