Maluku Syarikat Islam Regional Board Urges Police to Arrest Gozi Rumain’s Assailants Without Waiting for Surrender

The INDONESIAN, JAKARTA — Hamza Hanubun, Chairman of the “Regional Board of Syarikat Islam (DPW SI) Maluku,” expressed deep concern over the uncertainty in handling the severe assault case against Gozi Rumain in Lorong Putri, Batu Merah Village, Ambon City. The victim is currently undergoing intensive treatment at the Maluku Regional Police Bhayangkara Hospital due to serious hacking wounds.

DPW SI believes that even though the Maluku Police Chief, Inspector General Pol Prof. Dr. Dadang Hartanto, visited the victim in the hospital, this step has not shown concrete resolution regarding the arrest of the perpetrators, who are still at large.

Hamza Hanubun, Chairman of DPW SI Maluku, affirmed that the public is awaiting real action from the Maluku Regional Police. The Police Chief’s statement asking the perpetrators to “surrender peacefully” is ultimately deemed insufficient to address a severe assault case like this.

“This is a serious case that threatens someone’s life. The authorities should act quickly and decisively to apprehend the perpetrators. The community needs real action, not just appeals,” Hamza stressed.

According to him, swift and measured steps will help restore public safety and provide certainty for the victim’s family.

Hamza Hanubun, Chairman of DPW SI, stated that to date, the victim’s family has not received certainty regarding when the perpetrators will be secured. They are still awaiting concrete action from the police to ensure this case is handled with genuine seriousness.

While the Police Chief’s visit is appreciated, the victim’s family needs certainty. They are in a difficult situation and hope that the authorities can provide a sense of security.

It is also important to remember that in various regions of Maluku, cases of violence often escalate into incidents involving many people, even leading to fatalities. Therefore, slow handling is feared to create room for undesirable situations to develop.

“History shows that a number of cases in Maluku have had widespread impact if not handled quickly. Therefore, swift action is greatly needed to prevent escalation. Direct action from the authorities is key to curbing potential problems,” Hamza explained.

Thus, this should serve as an alarm to ensure that legal handling is taken seriously.

To ensure this case proceeds according to procedure and provides justice for the victim, Hamza Hanubun, Chairman of the Maluku Syarikat Islam Regional Board, emphasized the following to the Maluku Regional Police:

* Immediately arrest the perpetrators without waiting for them to surrender.
* Conduct the investigation process transparently and report periodically to the victim’s family.
* Provide comprehensive protection for the victim and their family from potential further threats.
* Conduct an internal evaluation if there is no significant progress in the near future.

Hamza Hanubun, Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council of Syarikat Islam, assured that DPW SI Maluku will continue to monitor the progress of this case. If there are no significant steps from the police, DPW SI is ready to issue an official statement through a press conference as a form of public oversight.

“Our hope is simple: justice must be upheld. The victim and their family have the right to legal certainty and a sense of security. Swift action from the authorities is greatly needed,” Hamza Hanubun concluded.
