The INDONESIAN (JAKARTA)— To carry forward the fighting spirit of RA Kartini, designer Migi Rihasalay gathered with a number of resilient women to celebrate the occasion at Tugu Kunstkring Paleis in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4). This gathering of influential women served as a platform to exchange insights on business and social issues, while reflecting on the meaning of emancipation according to their respective fields of expertise.

“I am truly delighted to be able to gather with inspiring friends on this special day to discuss so many things,” said thematic fashion designer Migi Rihasalay, coinciding with the celebration of Kartini Day on April 21st. The distinguished guests gathered at Kunstkring dressed in kebaya, the traditional attire synonymous with Kartini Day celebrations.

Migi further explained that most attendees were members of the Lavender and Sweet Lady communities, including the prominent figure Lianjel, also known as Lian Juwita. “This moment is celebrated to honor RA Kartini’s struggle for education and gender equality for Indonesian women,” added Migi, who was accompanied by her beautiful daughter of Eurasian descent, Kinikita James.

According to her, the celebration was simple yet deeply meaningful, also featuring discussions on social causes to help others. “The event was simply about sharing a meal, exchanging stories, building business networks, and empowering one another. We reminded ourselves that as Indonesian women, we have the right and the courage to learn, be independent, and be educated,” stated Migi, whose name is increasingly prominent in the fashion industry.

She emphasized that Kartini Day stands as a symbol of courage, education, and women’s rights in Indonesia. It is a commemoration of women’s emancipation and a tribute to Kartini’s legacy. “Kartini Day is a national observance in Indonesia held every April 21st to honor the birth and contributions of Ibu Kartini as a pioneer of women’s emancipation,” Migi explained.
