The INDONESIAN, (Jakarta) — H. Safrin Sofyan, Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the National Unity Movement 08 (GPN 08), has expressed deep concern over the alleged criminalization of Mahaputra Jafir Oda, Director of PT Golden Anugrah Nusantara (GAN), following his naming as a suspect and the declaration that his case file is complete (P21) by the Kendari District Prosecutor’s Office.
The statement was issued in response to a protest held by Mahaputra’s family in front of the Kendari District Prosecutor’s Office, an event marked by deep emotion and tears. During the demonstration, the family carried a banner bearing the words:
“MR. PRESIDENT PRABOWO, PLEASE CLEAN OUT THE LAW MAFIA IN THIS COUNTRY”
According to H. Safrin, this incident reflects the real cry of ordinary citizens who have lost faith in the existence of justice in the nation.
“We see strong indications that Mahaputra Jafir Oda has been wrongfully criminalized. It is deeply ironic that someone who initially filed a report regarding alleged document forgery has instead been named a suspect. This raises serious questions among the public,” H. Safrin Sofyan emphasized in a statement to the media on Saturday, May 17.
H. Safrin considers the handling of the case to be irregular and in need of serious attention from law enforcement authorities at the central level.
He has called on President Prabowo Subianto, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to personally oversee the legal process, ensuring it is conducted objectively, transparently, and free from interference by certain interests.
He highlighted reports that Mahaputra had previously filed a complaint regarding the alleged forgery of a nickel Mining Business License (IUP) belonging to PT Citra Silika Malawa (CSM) in North Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. However, as the case progressed, the legal tables turned and the reporter himself became the subject of investigation.
Furthermore, H. Safrin stressed that the process of naming a suspect should be carried out professionally and based on solid, verified evidence.
“The public naturally questions why someone is designated a suspect before a full and comprehensive forensic examination has been completed. In cases involving alleged document forgery, forensic results should serve as a key instrument to clarify the facts. If the process is not yet finalized but a suspect is already named, it is reasonable for the public to view this as a miscarriage of justice,” he said.
In his view, the law must never be used as a tool to silence certain parties or to reverse legal facts.
“This is a nation governed by law, not by arbitrary power. We must not allow a system where the law strikes hard at the weak but stays lenient toward the powerful. The public has witnessed far too many cases where ordinary people or vulnerable parties fall victim to the schemes of the law mafia,” he stated.
H. Safrin also warned that the practices of the law mafia pose a serious threat to the dignity of law enforcement institutions and to public trust in the state.
“If the law mafia is allowed to continue operating with impunity, it is not just one person or one family that will suffer, but the very future of justice in this country. The law mafia must be eradicated at its roots, for it has brought suffering to countless people,” he added.
He also commended the courage shown by Mahaputra’s family, who peacefully demanded justice in front of the Kendari District Prosecutor’s Office. According to him, the tears of Mahaputra’s mother, wife, and relatives symbolize the deep-seated grievance of a community that yearns for true, substantive justice—not merely legal formalities.
Previously, as reported by the online media Kendariinfo.com, dozens of Mahaputra Jafir Oda’s family members and relatives gathered at the Kendari District Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, to demand justice after his case was declared complete. Protesters argued that the case is being rushed, noting that several expert witnesses have yet to be questioned by investigators, even as the legal process moves forward.
H. Safrin expressed hope that all law enforcement officials will perform their duties professionally, independently, and free from any form of intervention.
“We believe President Prabowo has a strong commitment to eradicating the law mafia. Therefore, we hope this case receives serious attention, so that the public can once again trust that the law truly stands for justice,” he concluded.
