Indigenous Diplomacy Rises on the Global Stage: MAI Honors the Maharaja of Kutai Mulawarman at the World Zakat & Waqf Forum in Kuching, Malaysia

The INDONESIAN —  The Majelis Adat Indonesia (MAI)  the Indonesian Cultural Council  has conveyed its deepest respect, high regard, and profound pride to His Majesty Prof. Dr. M.S.P.A. Iansyah Rechza FW, Ph.D., Maharaja of Kutai Mulawarman, Sovereign of the Kutai Mulawarman Kingdom, for his participation as a Delegate at the World Zakat & Waqf Forum  14th Annual Meeting and International Conference, held at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, from October 13–16, 2025.

The presence of His Majesty at this distinguished international forum marks a moment of great pride for the entire family of the Majelis Adat Indonesia (MAI) and stands as a testament to the active role of Indonesia’s indigenous and traditional communities on the global stage.

His Majesty’s participation signifies that Indonesia’s customary and cultural values are not only alive within the nation but also contribute meaningfully to global dialogues on humanity, welfare, and civilization.

The Founder and Initiator of the Majelis Adat Indonesia, Yang Mulia (YM) Datu M. Rafiq Datuk Rajo Kuaso, expressed that the exemplary presence and engagement of His Majesty the Maharaja of Kutai Mulawarman serves as a powerful inspiration for all indigenous communities across the Indonesian archipelago.

“His Majesty’s attendance at a world forum is not merely about representing his kingdom and its customs, but about upholding the dignity and honor of the Indonesian nation. He demonstrates that the traditions and culture of the Nusantara are living moral forces and pillars of civilization capable of engaging in meaningful dialogue with the modern world without losing their authentic identity,” stated YM Datu M. Rafiq Datuk Rajo Kuaso in his written message (October 13).

The Majelis Adat Indonesia recognizes His Majesty’s participation as a significant milestone in the revival of Indonesia’s cultural and traditional diplomacy on the international stage.
