The Student and Community Coalition (KMMB) of North Sumatra has urged the North Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office and the Balige District Prosecutor’s Office to investigate alleged corruption in the Health Operational Assistance Fund (BOK), National Health Insurance (JKN), and Special Allocation Fund (DAK) at the Bor-bor Health Center.
*Similar Corruption Patterns*
KMMB Chairman, Sutoyo, stated that the conviction of the former head of the Parsoburan Health Center for corruption strengthens the suspicion that similar practices may have occurred when the defendant served as the head of the Bor-bor Health Center. “We urge the prosecutor to thoroughly investigate all budgets for 2023-2024,” said Sutoyo.
*Inadequate Sentence*
KMMB criticized the one-year prison sentence handed down to the defendant, saying it was too lenient and did not reflect the severity of the crime. “Corruption of health funds is a crime that directly harms the public. The defendant’s polite attitude and restitution of state losses should not be the primary factors in reducing the sentence,” said Sutoyo.
*Investigation and Prosecution*
The investigation revealed that the defendant had embezzled funds from the BOK and JKN, using them for personal gain. The court also found that the defendant had instructed a supplier to open a bank account in her name to facilitate the disbursement of funds.
*Call for Accountability*
KMMB demanded that the government temporarily dismiss the defendant from their civil servant position to ensure that the legal process runs smoothly. The coalition also called for the prosecution to investigate the allegations thoroughly and to hold those responsible accountable.
*Protest and Oversight*
KMMB plans to hold a protest to demand that the High Court of North Sumatra oversee the handling of the case and ensure that the trial is conducted transparently and without interference.
