The INDONESIAN (Banda Aceh)— The Rumpun Budaya Seni Sumatera Nusantara (Nusantara Cultural and Artistic Community) has expressed its full appreciation and support for the election of Prof. Yusri as Chairman of the Aceh Traditional Council (Majelis Adat Aceh – MAA) for the 2026–2031 period. This support was not only conveyed institutionally but was also a topic of discussion at the Communication Forum of the Indonesian Traditional Councils (Forum Komunikasi Majelis Adat Indonesia – MAI), which was attended by Kings, Sultans, Datuks, Queens, and traditional leaders from across the archipelago.

The General Chairman of Rumpun Budaya Seni Nusantara, Khairul Abrar IH, emphasized that the MAI forum serves as a strategic platform to unify the views of traditional leaders from various regions regarding the leadership of traditional institutions, including the MAA.

“During the MAI communication forum attended by traditional leaders from across the Nusantara, the election of Prof. Yusri received significant attention and appreciation. This demonstrates that his leadership is not only recognized in Aceh but also garners moral legitimacy from the national traditional community,” stated Khairul in a press release on Thursday (09/04/2026).

Khairul, who also serves as Secretary of the Indonesian Malay Cultural Council (Majelis Adat Budaya Melayu Indonesia) for Aceh Province, considers Prof. Yusri to be the right figure to lead Aceh’s highest traditional body once again, citing his strong track record as both an academic and a cultural figure.

Prof. Yusri is a distinguished professor at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Syiah Kuala University, specializing in Acehnese culture and language. His contributions extend beyond academia to the strengthening of traditional institutions in Aceh.

Throughout his career, he has served as Head of the Secretariat of the Aceh Traditional Council (MAA) and as Vice Rector of the Indonesian Institute of Arts and Culture (Institut Seni Budaya Indonesia) Aceh. These experiences have further strengthened his leadership capacity in preserving, maintaining, and developing Aceh’s traditional and cultural values.

His re-election by acclamation is also seen as a reflection of the high trust placed in him by various traditional elements within Aceh.

Khairul expressed hope that under Prof. Yusri’s leadership, the MAA will play an even more strategic role, not only as guardians of local wisdom but also as vital partners to the government in development initiatives rooted in traditional values.

“Looking ahead, we hope the MAA will become more active in preserving traditions, guiding the younger generation, and serving as a cultural fortress for Aceh amidst the currents of globalization. The support conveyed at the MAI forum serves as collective energy to strengthen this role,” he concluded.
