The INDONESIAN, (Jakarta) – A group of youth and students affiliated with the National Network for Democracy, Law and Environment (JARNAS HUDLI) staged a demonstration in front of PT Naked Press offices in the Pasar Rumput area, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, to protest alleged labour violations and breaches of licensing regulations that have previously drawn public scrutiny.

The situation remained tense throughout the action. From the moment protesters arrived, all access gates to the company premises were kept tightly shut. This stance has raised major questions about management’s attitude, which is viewed as unwilling to accept criticism or public oversight.

Action Coordinator Ahmad Yahya Tikori said sealing off the premises during a peaceful protest only reinforces suspicions that serious issues are being concealed from the public. Instead of providing clarification, the company chose not to meet the demonstrators or open space for dialogue.

According to accounts from the scene, police officers securing the area also attempted to contact the company owner to request a meeting with the group. However, until the protest concluded, there was no sign of good faith from management to issue a statement or receive representatives of the demonstration.

Tensions briefly escalated as protesters sought to enter the compound to demand answers directly. Minor shoving occurred with officers deployed to block access to the building. Through police efforts, order was eventually restored without further incident.

JARNAS HUDLI expressed regret over PT Naked Press’s uncooperative stance. At a time when the company is under public spotlight over multiple alleged violations, management should demonstrate moral responsibility by providing open explanations rather than avoiding communication.

Previously, JARNAS HUDLI submitted a set of demands, including a call for a comprehensive investigation by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Manpower Supervisory Office into alleged breaches of labour standards, including claims that workers’ rights are not being fulfilled.

The coalition also urged law enforcement authorities to follow up on every alleged violation in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.

“I want to stress that this action is not the end of our efforts. If no concrete steps are taken soon by PT Naked Press or the relevant government agencies, we will return with follow-up actions involving far larger numbers,” Ahmad Yahya affirmed.

The group also called on all former and current employees who believe their rights have been denied to come forward and file reports with the proper authorities, so that every alleged violation may be examined objectively on the basis of evidence and law.

“In our view, this silence and refusal to engage in dialogue reflect a lack of seriousness from management in addressing matters of public concern. We will continue to monitor this issue until it is resolved transparently and workers obtain legal certainty,” he concluded.
