The INDONESIAN (Kalimantan)— Kanjeng Raden Ayu Ngabehi Fitria Anggraeni, Head of the Duchy of Arts, Heritage, and Rituals of the Archipelago within the Indonesian Customary Council (Majelis Adat Indonesia / MAI), delivered a profound address emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural values as the foundation of the nation’s identity.
The address was delivered during the Communication Forum of the Indonesian Customary Council (MAI), attended by Kings, Sultans, Datuks, Queens, and customary leaders from across the archipelago on May 5, 2026.
In her presentation, Kanjeng Raden Ayu affirmed that arts, cultural heritage, and traditional rituals are not merely relics of the past, but rather the very “life force” that animates the nation’s identity. Art is viewed as a reflection of feeling, an expression of gratitude to the Creator, and a medium of communication between humans, nature, and one another.
Cultural heritage contains the wisdom and lessons of ancestors, while traditional rituals embody respect, prayer, and social agreements that strengthen brotherhood.
Furthermore, she emphasized that customary values are inherently aligned with religious teachings, particularly Islam, which advocates for balance, justice, and respect for all of God’s creations.
According to her, tradition and religion are not conflicting forces, but can walk hand-in-hand to shape a harmonious and dignified life.
Kanjeng Raden Ayu also highlighted the rich culture of the Dayak community as a vital part of the Nusantara heritage.
She expressed appreciation for how the Dayak people preserve their value systems, arts, and rituals—especially in maintaining the relationship between humanity and nature, and strengthening social cohesion.
In practice, for Dayak communities who embrace Islam, tradition and religious law exist in harmony, where every ritual is adapted to reflect the values of faith in Allah SWT.
Concluding her speech, she invited all elements of the nation to collectively carry out three main responsibilities: preserving arts while maintaining their authentic values; caring for cultural heritage as a trust from ancestors; and ensuring the continuity of traditional rituals in ways that remain relevant to the times and aligned with religious teachings.
“Preserving arts, heritage, and rituals is a form of worship. Within them lies gratitude to God, respect for ancestors, and the responsibility to pass on noble values to future generations,” she stated.
This address serves as a powerful reminder that cultural preservation is not solely the duty of customary leaders, but the responsibility of every citizen to safeguard the dignity and continuity of Nusantara civilization.
Wassalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
