Cilincing Green Mussel Cultivation Ready for Expansion; Managers Seek Government and Banking Support to Strengthen Coastal Community Economy

The INDONESIAN (Jakarta)— Efforts to build economic self-reliance among coastal communities are continuing through the development of marine green mussel cultivation businesses in the Cilincing area, North Jakarta.

The initiative, pioneered and developed over time by Mr. Sarfhan Selamet together with local residents, is now entering a phase of consolidation and expansion. Plans are underway to establish partnerships with various stakeholders, including support programs from the government and financial institutions.

To date, the floating cage-based green mussel cultivation operation has been running productively with 15 active units, serving as a significant source of income for residents living in the surrounding coastal areas.

Beyond generating economic value, the activity has also created opportunities for local workforce empowerment, particularly involving residents in the cultivation process, harvesting, processing, and distribution of marine products.

Recognizing the vast potential of the marine sector and the urgent need to strengthen community-based enterprises, Mr. Sarfhan Selamet reaffirmed his commitment to scaling up the business. Plans include adding more cultivation units, enhancing operational capabilities, and broadening the economic impact for the community.

“Our hope is simple: we want this enterprise, which has grown from within the coastal community, to level up — becoming more productive, creating jobs, and delivering greater benefits to local residents,” he stated.

As a concrete step forward, management is preparing proposals for financial support and partnerships with various parties. This includes accessing government programs designed to strengthen the people’s economy and support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as exploring financing opportunities through banking institutions.

This move also aligns with broader government policies aimed at fostering national entrepreneurship, strengthening the grassroots economy, empowering the maritime sector, and improving access to financing for productive business actors.

Proposed development plans include:

– Addition of 15 new cultivation cage units;
– Enhancement of operational facilities and cultivation equipment;
– Expansion of employment opportunities for coastal residents;
– Construction of supporting facilities for workers;
– Strengthening distribution networks and business systems for greater long-term sustainability.

Total investment required for this development is estimated at approximately IDR 1 billion. It is projected that this expansion will help establish a marine-based economic hub for the community along the Cilincing coastline.

Meanwhile, support has also been voiced by the Chairman of Aspirator Indonesia Emas (AIE), who expressed appreciation for the initiative to develop a marine-based community enterprise.

According to the AIE leader, programs such as this serve as a tangible example of grassroots economic movement that deserves collective attention and support. He emphasized that his organization welcomes every effort to empower communities that directly contribute to improving public welfare.

The community organization AIE has also stated its readiness to participate in strengthening collaborative networks and providing assistance, should it be required during the business development process.

“We view the development of green mussel cultivation as a positive step that not only creates employment but also strengthens the economy of coastal communities. AIE is ready to be part of efforts that deliver tangible benefits to society,” he remarked.

Looking ahead, the management hopes to receive support not only in the form of funding but also through technical assistance, market access expansion, capacity building, and cross-sector collaboration. These measures are intended to ensure that coastal community enterprises can grow stronger, operate more professionally, and achieve long-term sustainability.
