The Indonesian (Jakarta)– The Chairman of Jakarta Social Impact (JSI), Ferdiansyah Hermawan, has put forward constructive notes regarding the sustainability of the Free Private School program currently being promoted by the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta.
JSI welcomes the initiative as one of the most progressive social breakthroughs in the last decade. However, Ferdiansyah emphasized that the success of this program heavily relies on strict on-site supervision and long-term fiscal sustainability.
“We fully support this program. However, it must be remembered that its impact will only be visible in the long run—at least within one to two educational cycles. Therefore, strict oversight must be carried out by authorities, the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), and civil society to prevent any irregularities,” he stated.
He warned against potential risks that could damage the program’s integrity, such as the buying and selling of seats, illegal levies, and improper additional fees. According to him, these issues require serious attention from all stakeholders.
Furthermore, Ferdiansyah highlighted the importance of optimizing the data-based monitoring system through the Basic Student Data (Dapodik) initiated by the Education Department. He believes this system needs to be strengthened with community-based rapid reporting mechanisms, such as complaint applications and the establishment of reporting posts at the district level.
Additionally, JSI urges the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to continue increasing the education budget allocation in the coming years. This is crucial to anticipate inflation and school operational needs, while also expanding the program’s coverage to reach all areas, including regions with high dropout rates.
“Sustainability is the key. This program must not end as a mere seasonal political promise, but should become a sustainable policy that truly benefits the people,” Ferdiansyah concluded.
