PRIME NEWS POST

JAKARTA — Eki Pitung, Secretary-General of GARDA Prabowo and Chairman of the Gerakan Nasional Bersama Prabowo 08, has voiced serious concern over allegations of wiretapping linked to President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto.

According to Eki, if the allegations prove true and were carried out without legal basis, the issue cannot be dismissed as a mere privacy violation. Actions targeting the security, comfort, freedom, and personal confidentiality of a head of state constitute a grave matter concerning the dignity of the presidency and national security.

He emphasized that protection of the President is not merely about safeguarding an individual — it is about upholding the authority of the presidency, government stability, and national sovereignty.

In a statement shared via personal WhatsApp, Eki warned that the alleged wiretapping must be thoroughly investigated, particularly if indications suggest it forms part of a broader pattern.

“This may have begun with wiretapping, but we cannot ignore the risk of far more serious threats — including threats to the President’s safety. The State must investigate this comprehensively. We must not wait until something irreversible occurs,” Eki warned.

Learning from History: Avoid Repeating the Nation’s Tragedies

Eki also recalled Indonesia’s history — including periods marked by political conflict, ideological division, and threats to national leadership. He referenced the crackdown on the PKI during the administration of former President Soeharto, noting that these historical lessons must guide the nation to avoid political hostility and threats to national leadership.

While acknowledging the family ties between President Prabowo and former President Soeharto, Eki stressed that current security concerns must be addressed based on facts, evidence, and the law — not sentiment or historical grievances.

“The nation must not repeat past mistakes. Political differences must never escalate into threats against anyone’s safety — least of all the President of Indonesia,” he stated.

Allegations of Treason Must Be Tested in Court

Eki argued that if investigations uncover organized efforts to undermine the President’s security or violate his constitutional rights, law enforcement must act decisively. Where evidence exists — including indications of treason or crimes against the State — all those responsible must face legal consequences.

“No one is above the law. Guilt and sentencing must be determined through due process and valid evidence,” he said, adding that the President’s safety is a national interest that cannot be compromised by politics or factional agendas.

Public Oversight Ensures Justice Is Served

Eki specifically called on the public to remain engaged throughout the legal process. Public scrutiny, he noted, is essential to ensure investigations remain transparent, professional, and objective — and do not end simply when a suspect is named.

“We have seen high-profile cases stall without accountability. We must ensure this case does not fade away. The truth must be revealed, and anyone found guilty must face the full weight of the law,” Eki said.

He cautioned against investigations that appear forceful initially but lose momentum over time: “If there is insufficient evidence, due process must be respected. But if evidence exists, no one — regardless of position — should receive special treatment or be shielded from justice.”

Public oversight, he clarified, does not mean interfering with law enforcement independence. It means ensuring every legal step remains accountable to the people.

Act Before Threats Become Tragedies

Eki urged authorities to conduct a thorough, professional, and transparent investigation into every aspect of the alleged wiretapping — identifying its origins, those responsible, motives, and whether broader threats to presidential security exist.

“We do not want tragedy. We do not want the State to act too late. If crimes have been committed, let the law run its course. The President’s safety and the dignity of this nation are everyone’s responsibility,” Eki affirmed.

In closing, he called for national unity and caution against misinformation: “Defending the nation does not mean accepting everything without question. It means ensuring the law, the Constitution, and the people always stand above all else. Do not let this remain an unresolved debate. Reveal the truth. Uphold the law. And remember — the State must act before threats become tragedy.”
