The INDONESIAN, (South Solok)– Rantau-based mining entrepreneur Edi Saputra has officially established the South Solok People’s Mining Cooperative as a commitment to providing legal, fair, and sustainable management of people’s mining operations in South Solok Regency.
The cooperative’s establishment ceremony was attended by local artisanal miners and several key figures, including Mulyadi Elhan Zakaria (one of the mentors of the National Mining Cooperatives Union/IKTN), Khairul Saleh Sipahutar (Regional Coordinator I of IKTN), Mulyadi (Chairman of West Sumatra Provincial IKTN), and community leader Dato’ Apri Yono. Prospective board members of the South Solok People’s Mining Cooperative were also present.
In addition to serving as a platform for socializing people’s mining regulations to entrepreneurs and miners, the event also marked an important moment for establishing the cooperative’s organizational structure as an official forum for artisanal miners in South Solok.
In a mobile phone interview, Edi Saputra – founder and Chairman of the South Solok People’s Mining Cooperative – expressed appreciation for the enactment of Government Regulation No. 39 of 2025.
“We would like to thank the government for enacting Regulation No. 39 of 2025. For us small-scale operators, this regulation provides legal certainty so we can earn a living and manage mining potential in our own villages legally,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Mulyadi Elhan Zakaria emphasized that the establishment of the people’s mining cooperative in South Solok aligns with national policy directions.
“In South Solok, an entrepreneur has already established a people’s mining cooperative. This is in line with the President’s direction and the mandate of Government Regulation No. 39 of 2025 that miners must form cooperatives. Going forward, cooperatives will be fully overseen through Ministerial Regulations derived from this government regulation. The most important thing today is to form cooperatives, while we await technical guidelines in accordance with regulations,” he stressed.
The establishment of the South Solok People’s Mining Cooperative is expected to be an initial step in strengthening the local community’s economy while ensuring natural resource management that is legally sound, transparent, and prioritizes people’s welfare.
