The Indonesian (Jakarta) — The tragic collision between the KRL Commuter Line and the Argo Bromo Anggrek train near Bekasi Timur Station, which claimed at least 15 lives, has left deep sorrow and raised serious questions regarding public transportation safety.
Amid the ongoing investigation, strong demands for accountability have emerged from various sectors of society. One such call comes from the Chairman of Jakarta Social Impact (JSI), Ferdiansyah Hermawan, who urges the government to take firm action against the operator of Green SM online taxis, the vehicle allegedly responsible for triggering the incident.
Ferdiansyah emphasized that this event should not be viewed as a mere accident, but rather as a reflection of weak supervision over the operation of public vehicles, particularly electric taxis.
“We at Jakarta Social Impact express our deepest condolences. If it is proven that this incident was caused by a problematic Green SM vehicle at the crossing, then this indicates serious issues within the company’s safety management,” stated Ferdiansyah on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
He urged the government not to stop at just conducting an investigation, but to also have the courage to impose strict sanctions if systemic negligence is found on the part of the company.
This demand aligns with the stance taken by the Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ahmad Sahroni, who requested the police to collaborate with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to probe alleged negligence, both from the driver and regarding the safety record of Green SM’s fleet.
Sahroni also referenced a similar incident involving the same type of vehicle in the Sawah Besar area in December 2025, which he believes indicates a pattern of repeated negligence.
“This must not be allowed to happen again. The government must be firm. It is not just the driver; the company must also be evaluated, and their operating license should even be revoked if systemic negligence is proven,” Ferdiansyah stressed.
Government Evaluation and Company Response
In response to the incident, the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation acted swiftly. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi confirmed that Green SM management has been summoned for a comprehensive evaluation of their Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and safety management systems.
The Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan, stated that a special team has been formed to examine the company’s licensing aspects and operational compliance. Administrative sanctions, up to and including license revocation, are being considered as options if serious violations are discovered.
On the other hand, Green SM Indonesia management has expressed their support for the investigation process. However, the company’s decision to disable the comment section on their social media accounts has drawn public criticism.
Ferdiansyah views this move as a lack of transparency.
“The public has the right to information. Closing channels of communication is not a solution. We urge Green SM to be cooperative and not to destroy evidence,” he asserted.
Currently, the Green SM driver is still being questioned by the police at the Bekasi City Metro Police Station. Meanwhile, the joint team continues the process of victim identification and evacuation.
Jakarta Social Impact (JSI) stated that it will continue to monitor this case until completion, to ensure accountability and deterrence for those found responsible.
