The INDONESIAN, (Jakarta) – The Indonesian Customary Council (Majelis Adat Indonesia/MAI), through its Secretary-General His Excellency M. Rafik Datuk Rajo Kuaso Cumati Koto Piliang Langgam Nan 7 Kingdoms of Pagaruyung Nusa (West Sumatra), expressed high appreciation to PT Pertamina for its exceptional performance in distributing fuel oil (BBM) and LPG to disaster-affected areas in West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh.
Pertamina has demonstrated strong commitment and rapid response in maintaining energy supply amid the crisis, even when land infrastructure and access were cut off. As of December 7, 2025, around 688 fuel stations (SPBU) – or 98% of the network in affected areas – have resumed operations, ensuring smooth supply for the public and public services.
In isolated locations due to road closures, landslides, or disasters, Pertamina relied on alternative transportation modes ranging from pioneer aircraft to planned deliveries using C-130 Hercules transport planes for fuel, along with special mechanisms for LPG distribution. These efforts were accompanied by humanitarian logistics support: setting up posts, public kitchens, and direct aid to affected residents, showing that energy services are inseparable from social responsibility.
Based on this and considering the vital role of energy in restoring community life, MAI assessed that Pertamina’s role during this emergency is highly deserving of recognition and serves as an example for other institutions.
His Excellency M. Rafik emphasized that from the perspective of the customs and philosophy of ancient Nusantara kingdoms, ensuring energy availability – especially during disasters – is part of the collective responsibility towards fellow citizens. In ancestral traditions, mutual cooperation (gotong-royong), protecting community safety and welfare, and ensuring shared survival are noble values that must continue to be practiced.
Modern collaboration through state-owned enterprises like Pertamina with the spirit of Nusantara customs demonstrates harmony between tradition and progress. MAI hopes this will inspire that the strength of unity and nationhood arises not only from cultural aspects but also from real solidarity in the field of social and humanitarian responsibility.
Brief Profile of the Indonesian Customary Council (MAI)
The Indonesian Customary Council (MAI) was established as a forum to unite customary leaders, royal figures, datuks, sultans, queens, and customary leaders across Nusantara. The initiative was officially recognized through the signing of the Nusantara Royal Decree No. 0455.2210.2025 as approval for MAI’s establishment by kings, sultans, queens, datuks, and customary leaders from across Nusantara.
Through MAI, customary values and local wisdom are presented to strengthen the national framework and mutual cooperation between regions, tribes, and customs in Indonesia. MAI serves as a guardian of traditional values, a symbol of unity, and a reminder that amid modern challenges – including natural disasters – the spirit of custom and humanity remains relevant in nation-building.
With this, MAI extends its appreciation and gratitude to Pertamina and all related parties for their dedication in ensuring energy supply and basic community needs remain available during difficult times. May the cooperation between modern institutions and customary leaders continue to be strengthened, and the spirit of Nusantara solidarity continue to burn to recover, build, and protect all citizens.
