HRM Soekarna: Time for Indigenous Peoples to Rise and Safeguard the Constitution’s Direction and National Identity

PRIME NEWS POST

JAKARTA – HRM Soekarna, a Mentor of the Pioneers of Indonesia’s Independence, delivered a moral and constitutional appeal to all elements of the nation, particularly the indigenous peoples of the Indonesian archipelago, at the Communication Forum of the Majelis Adat Indonesia (MAI – Indonesian Indigenous Council). The event was attended by kings, sultans, datuks, queens, and traditional leaders across the archipelago.

This esteemed forum served as a space for collective contemplation on the nation’s condition, as well as a moment for deep reflection on the moral, ideological, and constitutional direction of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. (21/1/2026)

In his statement, HRM Soekarna emphasized the importance of awakening indigenous consciousness as an ethical force and moral balance for the state. He presented the Fatwa Concept of the Majelis Adat Indonesia (MAI), which contains three main appeals:

1. MAI calls on all fellow siblings of Motherland Indonesia, as fellow indigenous peoples of the nation, to quickly unite ranks and work side by side with the Majelis Adat Indonesia as the grand house of Nusantara’s indigenous communities.
2. MAI invites indigenous peoples to speak out collectively and responsibly to remind the government – as guaranteed in Articles 28 and 30 of the 1945 Constitution – about various state policies and practices deemed to have deviated from the constitutional mandate.
Highlighted examples include deviations from Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, as well as fundamental changes to the Supreme Advisory Council (DPA) state institution as regulated in Chapter IV Article 16 of the 1945 Constitution. This led to the 1960 GBHN (Broad Guidelines of State Policy), which was later replaced by Wantimpres (Presidential Advisory Council) and subsequently the KSP (Presidential Staff Office) without going through strict and constitutional state mechanisms and procedures.
3. Therefore, MAI deems it important and urgent for the Majelis Adat Indonesia to take proportionate, dignified, and constitutional action to restore the original direction and purpose of the nation’s life and statehood.

HRM Soekarna stressed that the Republic of Indonesia is the only country in the world that explicitly positions Allah SWT, the Almighty God, as the state’s spiritual foundation, as stipulated in Chapter XI Article 29 (1) of the 1945 Constitution.

Based on this, all members of the Majelis Adat Indonesia (MAI) call on the government, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, to immediately return all national and state activities to the character and identity of the nation, as encapsulated in the pure and consistent Pancasila and 1945 Constitution.

This appeal aims to ensure that, in the shortest possible time, the Indonesian nation can once again be masters in their own country, rather than merely being objects or puppets for the interests of other nations.

As a note, this MAI Fatwa Concept is planned to be followed up through internal discussions within the Majelis Adat Indonesia, before being officially submitted in writing to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri).

On this occasion, MAI will also discuss aspects of institutional legal standing as part of strengthening the role of indigenous communities in the state system.

Concluding his statement, HRM Soekarna invited all elements of the nation to always maintain harmony, uphold the values of equality, and foster a conciliatory attitude in daily speech, demeanor, and behavior.

“Duduk sama rendah, berdiri sama tinggi (Sit equally low, stand equally high). May Allah SWT bless this noble endeavor. Amin,” he concluded his moral message.
